Cuban Stars[edit]

@Penale52:Did contemporary sources refer to them as "Pollock's Cuban Stars" or just "Cuban Stars"? Was it later sources that used the "Pollock's" modifier to distinguish them, like "(East)" & "(West)" were used? Rgrds. --Bison X (talk) 07:28, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I was able to find at least three sources from 1932 referring to them as "Pollock’s Cubans" or "Syd Pollock's Cuban Stars." Here, here, and here. Two more from 1933 also use some form of this name. However, throughout most of these clippings Cuban Stars is also used at some point, so it looks like they were used interchangeably.--Penale52 (talk) 14:07, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Penale52: I'm of 1/2 a mind to move this article to Cuban Stars, but I can't decide on Pollock's Cuban Stars, (Pollock's) Cuban Stars, or Cuban Stars (Syd Pollock, owner). Otherwise, I think Havana Red Sox might be a better title. Do you have any pre-Pollok info on this team? What is your opinion on the article name? According to The Biographical Encyclopedia of the Negro Baseball Leagues, Pollock "became associated with the Havana Red Sox," in 1926, so they must have been playing before 1928, when it appears he purchased them. I can't find exactly when they started though. I think Pollock's Cuban Stars may be the best name, since that appears to be the name they used both most recently and for the longest time. I am curious if Baseball-Reference will be incorporating Penale52 (talk) 17:37, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I had to request an admin delete the redirect since it had more than one edit to it; the move has now been made. Rgrds. --BX (talk) 16:43, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
