Needs help[edit]

I did an edit for English and jargon. This read like a student paper trying to make a word count. I improved that somewhat but a lot of vacuousness remains. for example: "The transformation of Singapore can be used as a marker for future growth." What does that even mean? Or "Scholars have found a direct relationship between connected cities and the policies they choose to implement on a macro, meso and macro scale.[1]"? What policies? Also, almost anything can be examined on multiple levels. And yet, the article does contain some information. Will try to attract some editors from the field through categories. Leaving tags up because I agree with them, and I think more editing would benefit the article Elinruby (talk) 11:19, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification needed tag Dec 21[edit]

First up I agree completely with the post above by Elinruby. This article needs a great deal of paring down.

The particular problem that I tagged serves as another example, it says: "In Europe, cities are fairly close to one another but in different countries such as the so-called “Pentagon” cities ... " and then goes on to list a number of cities, (not countries) that are all in Europe/UK. What happened to "... in different countries"? (Putting aside that Europe is not a country, obviously.) And most readers outside of euro-centric international relations academics (&c) will ask "What the heck are the 'Pentagon cities'?"

Sooo ... I'm going to be a bit WP:Bold and do some trimming. I'll do it in a number of 'chunks' so if anybody doesn't agree with me it can be reverted in bits. Wayne 04:20, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification needed tag Jan 22[edit]

Missed how recently you were working on this Wayne, so apologies if I stepped on your toes. I removed the sections that didn't have any citations. I assumed they were summaries of the books cited but couldn't find any verification in Google Books or elsewhere. Even after reading a few papers to get some background, I'm not convinced this needs to be an article distinct from Regional Planning or Metropolitan planning organization. I'm especially confused as to why Singapore, which has a merged city and national authority, is so prominent in an article about partnerships between different local and regional authorities.

Absolutely no problem, Nben7070. Your edits are a massive improvement to the article. I was only tinkering with it, and like you, I had started to wonder if the article is warranted at all. My eventual conclusion is that the concept probably does warrant on article, but possibly on a wider scope? I'm likewise baffled by the focus on Singapore. And the assertion in the Future section ... "A big issue for sustainability is how to minimize human environmental impact but continue to thrive as a species." Yes, clearly it is, but that statement doesn't really add to my knowledge on the subject at hand. I'd also like to see a shift away from "Joe Smith's research says (blah blah blah)" It seems a bit close to original (although meta) research, and less of an 'encyclopedia' tone and more academic-essay, but that's possibly just my stylistic preference.
