Look up the reference "HISTORY OF CECIL COUNTY, MD, AND THE EARLY SETTLEMENTS AROUND THE HEAD OF CHESAPEAKE BAY AND ON THE DELAWARE RIVER" by George Johnston for additional historical details. Williamborg (Bill) 19:41, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Date, directions[edit]

I wikilinked to a new page, the Susquehanna and Tidewater Canal just now. It has a section on the Susquehanna Canal, which I also wikilinked to with an anchor to the appropriate section. I see some small additional things I think should be changed. Since the Susquehanna River runs essentially north to south, I'd suggest using east and west for the opposite banks rather than north and south even if the local custom is otherwise because of bends in the river or other reasons. Also, the date of completion of the canal was probably earlier than 1812. The Historic Port Deposit Site (http://www.portdeposit.com/Photos/SusquehannaBankNotes.htm) says 1801. The Philadelphia-Baltimore Trade Rivalry, 1780-1860 by James Weston Livingood on page 34 says 1802, and I think that's a more reliable date. Finetooth (talk) 21:45, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
