Handbook of Texas Article, Houston Chronicle[edit]

This page used to have a history section titled "origins" (circa 2010) that was apparently largely copied without reference from the Handbook of Texas. I noticed this when I came across a Houston Chronicle article from 2010 that uses Wikipedia as a source (I cited the Chronicle article when I rewrote the history section, but took care not to include the parts where it uses Wikipedia as a source, and cross-checked it with other sources just to be sure). However, the current Handbook of Texas article was modified in 2014 to no longer contain a large amount of this original information, including references to the date/name of the settlement, James Porter, or the development of the railroad. Does anybody know why this information might have been removed? I found this info in several other sources, so I'm curious why it would be deleted from the Handbook. Also, the Handbook article states, "It (Porter) was founded in the late 1800s and was the county seat from 1896 to 1915." What is it talking about? Every resource I know states that Conroe has been the county seat of Montgomery County since 1889, with the only official county seat before it being Montgomery (and unofficially: Willis - Gandy's A History of Montgomery County, pgs. 127-136).Stedil (talk) 23:51, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
