Article needs better cites[edit]

The only cite given is to a 1916 ethnographic report. In a bit of casual Googling, I found nothing else.

The only place I know of where the term is in general current use is in central California, where it's a pretty common place name in (eg) SLO and Santa Barbara counties. I'm not quite sure of the meaning, which is why I came here. Examples: Matias Potrero, Potrero John, Mil Potrero, Salisbury Potrero

The uncited example given for the Pajarito Plateau is unfamiliar to me, and I lived nearby for a number of years and read most of the geologic pubs for that area. In a bit of Googling, Potrero does show up in some early 20th C (and earlier) archaeological and Spanish archival refs, but nothing later.

Merriam Webster defines potrero as

1: field, pasture
2: cattle ranch
