Major rewrite proposed

[edit]

The sequence of the main body of the article could be improved to make it easier for readers unfamiliar with the topic. I propose a major rewrite that would have a sequence:

  • Purpose and principles (eg discrimination, stability etc)
  • Applications (eg transmission line, distribution feeder, generator, motor)
  • Protection schemes (e.g. differential, over-current, over-voltage/surge, impedance)
  • Protection equipment (e.g. relay technology, current transformers etc)

I am willing to attempt this major rewrite, but seek feedback here before I commence work. Marshelec (talk) 19:09, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Go for it. It's a big topic and I wouldn't care to tackle it...too many 800-page "handbooks" to digest and summarize. --Wtshymanski (talk) 19:21, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. This page should be reformatted. I can volunteer some time to review reworks. --JohnTsams (talk) 19:58, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article title does not require a hyphen

[edit]

The term power system is never hyphenated, and sources I have consulted do not have a hyphen in power system protection. After a long Wikibreak, I plan to use the opportunity of the current COVID-19 lockdown to undertake the major rewrite of this article that I suggested 8 years ago ! After referring to guidance about hyphens in Wikipedia:Manual of Style, I would like to remove the hyphen from the article title as part of the rewrite, taking it back to just Power System Protection. Add Reclosers to the Components section

[edit]

A recloser is a protection device also used in power systems, or at least in distribution systems. I think it should be added to the "Components" section of this article. --Alej27 (talk) 13:17, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Refimprove

[edit]

Wtshymanski, I'm curious, why do you think the Refimprove page tag exists? Yes, I agree, it would be more "helpful" to individually "fact" tag sentences and sections, but that is not the point. The page tag is a reasonable first step in identifying an entire article for improvement as a group effort. Please do not revert this prior to discussion here as it is an appropriate use per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:More_citations_needed#When_to_use.
