Creation & Modification[edit]

I originally put the Camp Drake info on the Scouting in Illinois section. Thanks to whoever took the time to create this actual page. As such, I have removed the history information from the original location, and expanded on it here. If someone wants to take the time to expand on the details, especially the Boy Scout and Cub Scout camping programs (I'm not as familiar with what goes on with those as I used to be), that would be highly helpful. April 2008 deletion notability tag[edit]

I removed the deletion notability tag as this was tagged by User:ScoutCruft, which appears to be a single-purpose account tagging all Scout camp articles. If you believe it should be reconsidered, please go ahead and re-tag Justinm1978 (talk) 01:51, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It was not a deletion tag, it was a notability tag. In looking at the article itself, I did not see adequate notability asserted and/or cited. I'm not saying Camp Robert Drake is not a notable subject, but the article (as it is written now) does not seem to show the notability. Is there a standard, guideline or policy for gauging the notability of a local council camp? It seems many of the articles on local council camps don't assert any great notability -- what is the minimal standard needed for a local council camp to be considered notable? Or are all local council camps just inheriantly notable? ScoutCruft (talk) 02:07, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Noted deletion vs. notability tag, and corrected. The wikiproject hasn't defined very clearly what counts as notable outside of Gilwell Park and Philmont, which does need to be addressed. I believe that the existence of a local scout camp with mainstream press coverage asserts notability, as this camp has one article done recently covering its 75th anniversary (which if you're a scouter, you know not many camps make it that long). There are more articles out there, but harder to come by without going to the library and digging through the microfiche. Justinm1978 (talk) 02:29, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not doubting that many of these camps are notable parts of their communities, however Wikipedia requires verifiability and also has standards for asserting a certain level of notability. I brought this up at WikiProject Scouting to find out what the minimum standard of notability is for a local Scout Camp. Hopefully a clear standard can be given to help provide guidance for articles on local camps. -- ScoutCruft (talk) 03:24, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
