This entry has a lot of incorrect information about Prasinophyceae - many are not naked - they have scales, many have flagella, there are also many well known marine genera (e.g. Pyramimonas, Micromonas, Bathycoccus)...I haven't gone through the whole entry - but someone needs to correct it! Pyramimonadales[edit]

According to the box, this taxon contains Pyramimonadales. However, the Pyramimonadalesarticle tells that this taxon belongs to class Pyramimonadophyceae.

Confusingly, Pyramimonadophyceae and Prasinophyceae are no synonyms and have different articles for their own.

This appears to be inconsistent. Please clarify, thanksin advance! --Ernsts (talk) 14:32, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Ernsts: I think the material is correct, but presented poorly. The two classes are different taxonomic hypotheses, a traditional one and a more modern one.
  • Traditionally, the chlorophytes were divided into four or more classes: Chlorophyceae, Charophyceae, Ulvophyceae, Prasinophyceae, and sometimes others such as Pleurastrophyceae or Micromonadophyceae.
  • The Charophyceae are now known to be more closely related to land plants, as a grade within Streptophyta or redefined to include land plants (becoming a synonym of Streptophyta).
  • The Prasinophyceae are now known to be paraphyletic and polyphyletic. The majority of prasinophyte groups form a grade towards the more derived chlorophytes (Chlorophyceae, Ulvophyceae, etc), while a few group as early branches of the land plant lineage (Streptophyta). Some groups may be outside the Chlorophyta+Streptophyta clade.
  • Modern systems divide the prasinophytes into a number of classes, one of which is Pyramimonadophyceae. The Pyramimonadales are part of both these classes in their respective systems.
A first step might be to rename this page prasinophytes, which would be consistent with how the lede is written. Class Prasinophyceae should be removed from the taxobox and the major prasinophyte divisions listed within a {{paraphyletic group}} taxobox. —  Jts1882 | talk  16:41, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Jts1882:Hello thanks for the quick answer! Agree and leave it up to you as I am not a native english speaker (Just corrected some misspellings in my note on top ;-) ). --Ernsts (talk) 17:07, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
