Thanks to everyone for their active participation on Wikipedia. I have noticed that some anonymous users have added a lot of insight to the article, but the information they've added seems to come from primary sources. I am very interested in the sources of these information. If your sources are not in written form (i.e. personal conversations with PMI employees), consider turning them into quotes or mention in the Source section that the info came from an interview (who, when, where, etc.). --Emana 22:02, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am slapping myself for being so stupid. The source I had based the "Original design" section on has turned out to have been involved in a dispute with the parties within the article. Since I cannot find any reliable secondary source to back up the information given to me by the first source I have removed the section on "Original design". -- Emana 03:19, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please remove photo of "Love One Another"

[edit]

The JPG image of "Love One Another" (PreciousMomentsE1376LoveOneAnother.jpg) is being used without permission. Yes, the Wikimedia Commons description is correct in that it is a publicly available image at a certain URL, but as the Terms of Use on our site warns, the usage of the image outside of our site is prohibited. The person who used it may not have been aware of the Terms, as it is common for netizens to run an image search on Google and other search engines without actually visiting the sites. We'd love to help the Wikipedia project, but as a retailer, we cannot do that. Please take your own photographs, or contact Precious Moments, Inc. for permission to use one of their official images. -- PMshop.JP

Thank you for the heads up. I have removed the image from the article and have requested that it be removed from the Wikimeida Commons also.--Emana 19:14, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The dark side of Precious Moments

[edit]

Vandalism to this article has made me realize that there may be people out there that hate the lovey dovey theme of Precious Moments (although the original theme in the 1980s was much more solemn). That is okay. Please incorporate those thoughts into the article in a non-vicious and non-destructive way. Multiple views on the subject makes a robust and more convincing article. --Emana 01:19, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I shall do so. Smootsmoot 08:15, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I will be altering your entry a little so it is not attacking the consumers that buy Precious Moments products, but rather criticizing the products themselves. --Emana 08:31, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Photographes

[edit]

Surely someone collects these things and has a digital camera so they could take a picture and upload it. It would really help the article if readers could see a picture with the charicaristic pastel colors and big sad eyes. ~ ONUnicorn (Talk / Contribs) 19:35, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jessica Winstead has been kind enought to upload some photos. Removing the "reqphoto" tag. --Emana 23:14, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Added two pictures

[edit]

I added two pictures. I have another picture but I'm not sure where I should include it in the article. It is this one: Image:PreciousMomentsBoy.jpg|thumb|right I took these myself of my mom's stuff, so you don't have to worry about copyright violations. Hope they help. -- Jessica Winstead 04:14, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It would help a lot if you could let us know the item number of this figurine. --Emana 07:40, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Jessica! I should have put this on my watchlist when I added the reqphoto tag, then I'd have known it had pictures and wouldn't have taken this one of a bride and groom figurine. Perhaps someone may want to work it into the article, though yours are better quality. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs) 00:22, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Has this article been "polished up" by a writer of brochures for Precious Moments Inc.? "Precious Moments is a lifestyle brand..." is sales jargon that gives the source away. "Saccharine" and "cartoonish" are not words that would be permitted here, I suppose. The audience for these, as their design demonstrates, is distinctly the sentimental American lower middle class,[citation needed] ...but how would one document that fact? --Wetman 02:14, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Wetman, thanks for your comment. "Lifestyle brand" is something of a marketing jargon that is popular in and around my area of expertise, so I didn't feel that it was that weird until you mentioned it. I wanted to say Precious Moments is NOT JUST FIGURINES. Do you have any ideas on how to say this in a professional but neutral manner? And no, "saccharine" is an adj. that may violate WP:NPOV, but "cartoonish" may be admissible depending on context, because the artist, Butcher, use to also draw cartoons. I agree the audience for these products are for the lower middle class Americans... but that is the same for most products on the market, as most Americans ARE in the lower middle class. -- Emana 16:20, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please Mind the Gap

[edit]

I will be deleting entries based on personal interviews and letters due to Wikipedia's policy on "no original research". Please try to refrain from adding or deleting content to this article while I do so. I will report back on this page. -- Emana 16:34, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am now done with the gutting of the article for WP:NOR. I have deleted content that there were only primary sources and had no reliable third party references. I've also deleted facts that were "understood" but not backed up by any concrete evidence primary or not. I am guessing, more of the article should be gutted, as the sources referenced are actually commercially involved with Precious Moments, and those sources themselves are inherently biased. But as I weed out the sources, I've come to question the existence of the subject itself. It's like, if we stop talking about it, it ceases to exist. -- Emana 19:47, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Split section: Enesco

[edit]

Now that Enesco no longer carries Precious Moments and they have re-established themselves in the market, I think it would be better to split the Enesco section into a new article. That way, new information can be added to the new article independent of Precious Moments. The old enesco section can be toned down a little and made compact. -- Emana 16:54, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Flanders

[edit]

Regarding the Simpsons plot: I thought that the show was parodying Hummel figurines, e.g. "Humbleton" sounds like "Hummel." -- Gyrofrog (talk) 16:30, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Precious Boys Club

[edit]

I E-Mailed Customer Service and asked them to create a Precious Boys Club and have the series revolve around Nicola's little brother Bobby from the Precious Girls Club series. I asked them to have a lot of the same stuff as Precious Girls Club except for the Precious Boys Club to have a Non breakable Nickle Free Pin with Matthew 19:26 on it and to have the Precious Girls Club and the Precious Boys Club do some projects together. Happy Halloween. Sincerely, ChristianGirl2 —Preceding unsigned comment added by ChristianGirl2 (talkcontribs) 11:15, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why no mention of the stylized children esthetic?

[edit]

When people say Precious Moments they are generally referring to a visual esthetic which the company's own website[1] attests to being the basis for the company's namesake. These images are fairly common throughout the US. And are often compared to different kinds of cartoons, especially anime, irrespective of knowledge of the company that produces them. In other words it seems like the page for Precious Moments should be more about this style of imagery. If not a history of it. At least a description of the phenomenon, or at the very least an image that isn't a building--184.21.215.174 (talk) 00:00, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

We already have an article about the aesthetic: Super deformed aka "chibi". It's the same reason we have separate articles about roly-poly toy (a generic term) and Weebles (a Hasbro brand). But to connect the two, we'd need a reliable source (and everything2 isn't reliable by a long shot). --Damian Yerrick (talk) 00:50, 16 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

hello sunshine

[edit]

I have a book in my hand right now titled "hello sunshine" illustrated by a Betsey Clark. © 1972 by hallmark cards, inc. Kansas city, Missouri. Library of congress catalog card number 76-145807. Standard book number 87529-198-8...... I cannot find any info about this book anywhere. The illustrations are nearly identical to the style of precious moments illustrations. I am unsure if this artist may or may not have anything to do with the path leading into precious moments or not. I personally do believe they did due to the similarities partrayed in the drawings. I can't find any info about the artist either as tho she never existed. If anyone base more info regarding this topic please by all means inform the public if this book is related to the idea or development of precious moments. Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tim raine163 (talkcontribs) 03:53, 19 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I also own a copy of Hello, Sunshine! written by Barbara Kunz Loots and illustrated by Clark. Even the lettering looks like proto-Precious Moments. PROTIP: A 9-digit Standard Book Number can be converted to a 10-digit ISBN by adding a 0 in front, and Wikipedia's book sources list for ISBN 0875291988 links to plenty of info about this book. You might be able to dig up some sources that way. --Damian Yerrick (talk) 15:21, 7 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

betsey clark and precious moments are not the same.

Betsey Clarke is the woman who created the betsey clark collection of waifs: http://betseyzone.com/Resources.html you can contact the betseyzone and get more detailed information on your betsey clark collections. she started drawing children when she was nine years old. she signed with hallmark in 1962 and they distributed her work. Goebel&Co created porcelain figurines in 1973-74. she created for hallmark until she passed away in 1987.

i read elsewhere that the artist for precious moments is a man named sam butcher. he introduced precious moments in 1975 with figurines coming into the market in 1978. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Butcher

the characters look quite a bit alike but betsey's are different in regards to the hair; it is more whispy and moppet-like and her noses are more of a button nose; the clothing is more well-worn/patchwork play clothes whereas sam's drawings depict smoother, more styled hair and his noses are generally just a little domed curved line-weak upside down 'u' and the clothing is more 'proper'and dressed up. betsey's message seems to be more live a good life, love and be nice. sam's message is the same but is presented christian based.

Original

[edit]

Please add in David Gordon, whose wife Sharon was the original artist of the "precious moments" characters. She made home made greeting cards for friends (my parents) and they would stay with my sisters and I when my parents would go away. 2600:1700:44C0:E640:2453:EAC5:255D:CA3 (talk) 13:22, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
