November 2007 comment[edit]

I am happy to see a good and serviceable article that does not cite sources. A place exists for such articles. Wikipedia wasn't founded on hyper-rigor; refinements occur as needed, yet not losing sight of the essence of a thing---like the Web, for example---before it becomes ridiculously over-regulated and bureaucratized, is nice to see. --WikiPaul

Is this article redeemable?[edit]

This article is horrible. The last section (The companies from this business) makes absolutely no sense at all; one wouldn't know where to begin to copyedit it. The second section (Products) is little better. Should this article be deleted via AFD? Or merged? If anyone reads this, please weigh in. N2e (talk) 01:59, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted the two paragraphs that were over 90% obtuse. The remaining paragraph has some more useful information that is unique to precious metals refining. Perhaps we should consider merging this info into the main Refining (metallurgy) article. N2e (talk) 19:10, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The result was merge into Refining (metallurgy). -- N2e (talk) 17:37, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposed: this article

  • is atrociously written and difficult to understand,
  • has had no verifiable citations added despite being fact-tagged for over two years,
  • has only three WP pages that link to it despite being tagged for this deficiency for over two years
SUPPORT the merge
  • As proposer, I SUPPORT the merge. N2e (talk) 20:21, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support: I would suggest that it become a separate section in that article. However, some of the terms used for reagents (?) need to be explained, in order to make the text of this article accessible to the general reader.
  • Support: Seems pointless to have a seperate article right now when there is so little info. In a perfect future world, I would like to see it laid out as follows: Leave the precious metals section in the refining article. Within that section have subsections for each type of precious metal refining that have a summary and a main link to the metals refining process. I don't know if that is too much though. I'm not familiar with various precious metal refining methods, and if there is just one or two different methods used for all of the metals. If that's the case, then it might make sense for this article to be recreated down the road. Wizard191 (talk) 22:19, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merge is now complete[edit]

Based on the consensus that the merge is appropriate, I will set out to complete the merge today. I'm going off to get advice from the WP:MERGE page. N2e (talk) 17:32, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
