Do we really want a list?[edit]

It seems silly to me to have a list of prep schools, because it will either be hopelessly incomplete, or far too long. Any objections to replacing it with a link to the category? Stephen Turner (Talk) 16:41, 12 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Better to split it out into a separate page. Categories can't have redlinks, or say where the schools are. Kappa 17:00, 12 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
This is absolutely insane. A list of preparatory schools and defunct prep schools would be insanely huge. Wouldn't it be better to detail the exact difference between prep schools and other types? For example, I'm not sure if this is typical of prep schools but in the one I used to go to, there was no homework because the set homework was all done at school near the end of the day. This was the same for Day pupils and boarders. Wolf ODonnell (talk) 20:02, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, I have just deleted the list sections as not being encyclopedic, see WP:NOTDIR for details. For the record, the lists at the time they were deleted can be recovered from the history by following these links if people want to find somewhere appropriate for the content: List of current schools and list of former schools. Not just England[edit]

There are Prep schools in Wales and Scotland (N. Ireland too I presume). Can we change the list to 'Britain' and not just 'England'? Anthropax 13:35, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds reasonable to me. -- Necrothesp 13:49, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

CFD notice[edit]

The conclusion of the discussion in 2011 was to 'split' this category into multiple ones, not not suitable caregory for what I might call British Preparatory Schools has yet been created. I suggest that the problem was that this article is to vague currently in scope and doesn't know what it is about. Lets focus the article first, and then create a suitable category that relates to the this agreed scope. See section below for this discussion. PeterEastern (talk) 20:52, 16 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Scope[edit]

I propose to focus this article on the 'British Preparatory School system', making it clear that it covers both Preparatory schools in Britain, and also Preparatory Schools in other countries (many of which may be in former British colonies) which follow the same model but exclude other types of school which merely use the same terminology. We would for example include schools set up in India following the British model but exclude Prep schools in NI which appear of only share a name with the British schools, but nothing else. A separate article on NI prep schools may be appropriate. I suggest that we move the article to British Preparatory School system. This title is a bit long but is probably also the shortest one that accurately describes the most appropriate scope. Thoughts? PeterEastern (talk)
