Problems with Capitalization[edit]

'chief of protocol,' unless followed by a name, would not be capitalized, nor would 'surgeon general' (just as 'president' is not)('former president' cannot have an upper-case p, as the human being, still alive, is not 'former' just as 'former first lady' cannot have capital f's) - so now, after i've changed those, the links to Wikipedia's 'Chief of Protocol of the United States' and 'Surgeon General of the United States' articles don't work - i am not clear on how to fix this . . . - b betswiki (talk) 20:52, 31 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yearly Expenses[edit]

I'd like to see the monthly utility costs to maintain this facility. (ie 119 rooms with 35 bathrooms). Staffing and number of guests per year would add additional fyi(for your information). John Howard v Barack Obama[edit]

I see an issue between two parts of this version of the page:

"Several presidents-elect of the United States have spent the night before their inauguration in the house."
"... until January 15 when they will move to Blair House, the customary residence of the President-elect."

It can not be both "several" and "customary". Which Presidents have used it, when? References (especially to "customary")? - Peter Ellis - Talk 11:58, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bush vs. Obama Dustup[edit]

The whole story about Bush denying Obama's request to stay there for a couple of weeks prior to his inauguration is not worthy of such a huge amount of real estate on this page. The Truman assassination attempt is far more noteworthy and gets two sentences, while this Bush/Obama thing covers a third of the page. It should end up as one sentence in the history section with maybe - maybe a page of its own.--Fizbin (talk) 02:43, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reason for purchase[edit]

I wish I could find a reference for this. After Pearl Harbor, the Secret Service was concerned that the Germans or Japanese would try to assassinate the president. Chief of Protocol[edit]

The article states that the Office of the Chief of Protocol manages this house. The Chief of Protocol is an Assistant Secretary of State.
