Use of Page[edit]

The title of the page "United States presidents and control of congress" appears to be at odds with the content of the page, which seems to be more focused on the relationship between control of Congress and Historical Approval Rating. Either the title needs to be changed, or the content needs to be more in line with the descriptor. — mrmaroon25 (talk contribs) 21:51, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

{{cleanup}} since January 2007[edit]

  • References to presidents are slangy (Bush I and II) or inconsistent with other WP articles (LBJ)
  • Not fully wikilinked
  • Intro needs reworking
  • TOC / sectioning would be great
  • Can we get a link/refernce to the Wall Street Journal poll cited?

Agree. In addition, the "c" in the word "Congress" should be capitalized in the article's title. Funnyhat 01:19, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sources[edit]

Unless sources and documentation are provided, this page is worthless. I would worry about that before trying to improve other parts of the article. Unless someone can find the original source material or replicate these data, this page should be taken down. --- Guest

Errors[edit]

The graphs show a number of errors: Taft was a Republican, not a Democrat. The Senate was Democrat all through the Reagan years. The President colours are wrong from 1889 to 1897.

Republicans had the Senate from 2014-2016 - Democrats had the Senate for for 6 years not 8 — Preceding unsigned comment added by MarkusBkr (talkcontribs) 15:32, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

More Errors[edit]

More errors: In 2015, both Senate and House are controlled by Red Republicans. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.127.226.225 (talk) 05:19, 22 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There are similar errors in the tables as well.

Requested move 23 November 2016[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: move. Consensus is to move to the new names as proposed, but lowercase "p" in president. (non-admin closure) Bradv 23:15, 12 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

– Given WP:CONSISTENCY, WP:SCOPE, there is a very noticeable discrepancy here. Take many of the articles from Template:Lists of US Presidents and Vice Presidents (there's List of Presidents of the United States by age and List of Presidents of the United States by date and place of birth, etc.) --Nevéselbert 17:00, 23 November 2016 (UTC) --Relisting. @Dicklyon, I think that the full "President of the United States" is a proper noun, and as the correct plural of this proper noun is "Presidents of the United States" this means that the moves as proposed are correct. Certainly lists already using the 'Presidents of the United States' ordering capitalise such as List of Presidents of the United States (see also Category:Lists relating to the United States presidency which has many many lists using the proposed format). Though an internet search does seem to bring up some differing opinions on whether "President of the United States" is a proper noun. Maybe the best thing would be to make this move (as the current title is inconsistent with the vast majority of other articles on this matter) and then have a wider discussion involved all the pages related to the presidency of the United States. Interestingly as "United States President" is not a proper noun the titles of the articles currently in this move request are grammatically incorrect and if we were to keep the current format should be "List of fictional United States presidents", though of course that is just an academic aside as they're all about to moved to a better title formulation anyway. I suppose "President of the United States" could be taken as a proper noun when referring to a particular individual, but that still doesn't make "presidents of the United States" anything but a generic noun phrase. Dicklyon (talk) 03:44, 8 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

Merge suggestion[edit]

This article substantially overlaps in subject matter with Divided government in the United States. I would suggest merging them. Wyddgrug (talk) 01:45, 24 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
