Reception[edit]

It seems to have had a fairly good reception among general reviewers, but its reputation among serious Jane Austen readers is more dubious. As alluded to several times in the article (but never clearly explained), the film-makers did a drastic shift from 1813 fashions to styles mainly based on late-1820s fashions, using a lot of eye-hurting fabric patterns that were semi-authentic for the 1820s (though greatly enhanced and adapted for black-and-white film cameras) but completely anachronistic for 1813 or earlier. It may seem trivial, but it adds a constant visually-jarring discordant note for those who know what the clothes should look like. Also, much of the plot and dialogue was fairly heavily "Hollywoodized". Churchh (talk) 10:45, 31 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
