Ancestor to Original Prince?

The observation that the Sands Of Time Prince is an ancestor of the Original Prince is impossible. The original games take place in ANCIENT Persia (the prologue in the Shadow and The Flame confirms that). While Sands Of Time takes place in MEDIEVAL Persia (Official Website Comfirms this). Persian translation

What's the point of mentionning the Persian translation? The original game is in English, and the original title is "Prince of Persia". This is misleading and useless. Palpalpalpal 13:31, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Historical inaccuracies.

Since the Sands of Time trilogy features Persia ruling Babylon, and the Prince’s attack strings namechecking Darius and Cyrus, that would place the timeframe of the game from about 539 to 330 BC. Yet Sands of Time and the loading screen of The Two Thrones feature Arabic writing. The Persians made the Nabatean (proto–Arabic) language of Aramaic their lingua franca, and the lettering for Arabic didn't develop until centuries later.

A bit of a historical discrepancy there, I’d say. The misconception that Persians spoke Arabic comes from Persians converting to Islam and taking up that culture, script, and so on. But Islam developed some 600 years after Jesus!

I think a small section giving a couple of examples and explaining that the games are set in a culturally and historically incorrect persia (an alternatate world) would be appropriate, and if a couple of people who spend a little too much time reading about computer games not enough time learning about history and cultures acidentally become a little mor knowledgeable in the process, I think that's an excellent service for a Wiki that's supposed to be encyclopaedic.

The Prince of Persia of Bible

It is no mere coincidence that one of the later versions has a prince of Persia that transforms into somewhat of a demon (Warrior Within \ Dark Prince \ ETC). In the bible there is a section where 1 Angel of God was sent to deliver a prophecy to the prophet Daniel. Well the Angel was confronted by the "Prince of Persia" a Demon, and they fought for 21 days, only when the Angel was assisted by another Angel "Michael" was he able to deliver the message.

Daniel 10:13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; but, behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me: and I remained there with the kings of Persia.

Later, after the Angel gives Daniel the prophecy he tells him that now he has to go BACK to fight the "Prince of Persia" and also the "Prince of Greece" Daniel 10:20 Then he said, "Do you understand why I came to you? But I shall now return to fight against the prince of Persia; so I am going forth, and behold, the prince of Greece is about to come.

What this would mean in game terms is someone has done a little research into Christianity when putting together this game. In bible terms that may mean some Governments may actually have Demons that give them influence?? Prince of Persia?

Why they'd named it Prince of Persia? there's nothing Persian in this video game, since its DOS version is's Indian more than Persian, and these new versions are worse, they're a combinition of Turkish (weapons) Arabic (musics) and Indian (architecture and clothes), there's nothing Persian in it, even characters' names are not Persian ... it's better to name it "Prince of everywhere except Iran" Sasanjan 11:06, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

to Stevefarrell: It matters because it shows a lack of sensitivity as well as some ignorance on the part of the programmer. When someone from one culture/race/group inaccurately portrays another culture/race/group, this is often the basis of racism and misunderstanding of one another.

To sasanjan: I myself am not well educated enough on the various cultures represented to agree or disagree with your comments. However, a possible solution would be to produce a new game yourself which more accurately represents Persian culture. If Prince of Persia is, in fact, inaccurate in how it portrays Persian culture then I thank you very much for saying something about it. Rag-time4 20:29, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Well now we just have a huge amount of redundancy between the articles. I understand the idea behind moving some of the content over, but you've either moved too much or not removed some things from the original article.

Mirror Prince/Dark Prince/ Shadow?

I thought the correct name for the other prince was "Shadow". Although I cant verify it myself apparently some of the puzzles in prince of persia 2: the shadow and the flame needed the prince to seperate himself from his shadow, an ability he gained from jumping through the mirror. PC screen shots

The screenshots section shows the same screenshots over the label "PC" as for the Mac version. However, the PC version I've seen is a lower-resolution DOS version. Was there an enhanced-graphics PC version? -Ahruman 21:47, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

The only PC version of the original game that I'm familiar with is that low-res DOS version, and it looks exactly as those on the main page. Drst, 12:45, 13 June 2006 (CET+1)

The PC screenshots aren't from the original DOS game (it ran on CGA, 320x200, 4 colors!) The pictures shown seem to be from the Prince of Persia 2 for DOS.

That is definitely a set of original PC screenshots. The game could run on VGA at 320x200 with 256 colours; I remember playing it with CGA on my first PC and in VGA on my second. I can even see the original 3.5 inch disk of it sitting in my old disk box from where I'm sitting, so I can run it to check if necessary. To my knowledge there was never an enhanced version. Racist?

Is there any proof of this? that the majority thinks that the white race is the ideal of beaty? This sound kinda racist, even the "white race" lable is enough. Im removing the above quoted part from the article until the matter is cleared.

Jesus christ man, this is political correctness gone mad. There is such a thing as a white race, just as there is a black race, asian race, jewish race etc. Its not racist. Would you prefer whites and blacks? Its the same thing!

Who exactly does "many" refer to and who is to decide which DOS game is the greatest? In my opinion, vague and subjective statements like the one above do not belong in an encyclopedic article.

Category talk:Oblique video games

I am not sure whether to add Prince of Persia (1989 video game) to the Category talk:Oblique video games. Although the graphics use oblique projection to add depth to all the walls and platforms, all gameplay is 2D and no characters or objects ever use this depth? any thoughts? Why a non-neutral point of view warning is in the main article but there's nothing about on this discussion page?

Source Code Rediscovered

Jordan Mechner recently re-discovered the original source code for the game in floppy discs that've been sitting in a closet for over 20 years. He thought they were lost forever. He's since released them as free/open code. I think the page should mention that the 'source code release' is more a 'source code viewable' as Jordan Mechner has absolutely refused to apply a license for the source code. This means it remains entirely proprietary and has few legitimate uses (Jordan Mechner may in fact not even own the source code; there are no stated facts claiming this). Using it legitimately or even viewing it would legally taint any developer's future projects and they could be subject to legal action by PoP publishers for the duration of their carrier. The bad guy is the sultan's vizier, who is named Jaffar, and he is trying to force the princess to marry him, primarily as a means to an end to sieze the throne?
