Pronunciation[edit]

The pronunciation given for this woman's name, , is not correct either in English or in Danish. The conventional pronunciation of her name in English is conventionally pronounced ˈθaɪrə, and in Danish it is ˈtyʁæ. 98.232.92.243 (talk) 22:16, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced statement[edit]

However, before she was a married woman, Princess Thyra had an affair with a Palace guardsman, Vilhelm Frimann Marcher (1841-1872), who was evidently not good enough to become her husband due to court etiquette and rank. A daughter, Maria Katharina, was born in 1872 in Greece and given up for adoption. She was taken in by a Danish couple, Rasmus and Anne Marie Jorgensen, and renamed Kate. She married in 1902 to a Frode Ployen-Holstein. After a confrontation with King Christian IX, the child's father killed himself. Thyra was married off to her German prince six years later.

Actually, it may very well be true. This claim originated in a book by Bo Bramsen published in 1975 Huset Glucksborg. There was documentary which also discussed this subject produced by Anna Lerche and aired ca 2006. You can find an interview where Ms. Lerche mentions this subject here: http://www.etoile.co.uk/Columns/Gioffredo/060913.html The story has never been confirmed (or denied) by her descendants or the Royal Family of Denmark. Ilegitimate child of Thyra of Denmark[edit]

I saw a clip of a documetary of the Danish Royal Family and one of the royals (I can't remember who) talked about it so it must be true.

Illegitimate child/birth situation[edit]

This is what the article currently says: "To avoid scandal, Thyra fled to Greece to be with her brother, George I of Greece. When her father Christian IX learned that Thyra was "unwell", from the Greek media, he rushed to Greece to be with her."

This is quite different from what I've read before about all this, probably on this site. Previously, I'd read that when it was discovered that Thyra was pregnant, her mother bundled her away, and her brother, then the king of Greece, suggested she come there during the pregnancy. The man who'd fathered the baby confronted the Danish king, and that meeting did not go well, to say the least. Shortly after, the man killed himself. I've never read anything about Thyra running off to Greece and her father only finding out about the pregnancy later. As far as the adoption of the baby girl, she wanted the baby adopted in Denmark, not Greece, which it was. 2600:1700:BC01:9B0:6DB6:7115:7C25:D28C (talk) 03:47, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
