Inspiration?

[edit]

The similarities between this television show and an earlier American show, Monk, are marked: both main characters are suit-wearing men suffering from OCD following severe psychological traumas while they function as police consultants solving crimes with Holmesian powers of observation and deduction. The main differences are that Adrian Monk does not teach and his humor and cuddliness are eliminated in the Belgian show. Did Monk act as an inspiration or catalyst for Professor T.? I will be surprized if there is no influence at all. Thank you, Wordreader (talk) 10:16, 2 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Wordreader, as a Monk fan myself it was the first thing I mentioned when I started watching this tv show: "oh, this is just a Belgian version of Monk". I have not read anything in the news (I am Belgian myself) about this, but I also have a feeling they did get some of their inspiration from Monk.Garnhami (talk) 08:35, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Wordreader, Garnhami: If it is of interest, this review in the Guardian suggested he was an amalgam of several characters; 'irascible like Morse, a brilliant mind like Sherlock, OCD like Monk, delivering brutally honest appraisals like House'. For my money, I thought the show resembled Perception (which, I was surprised to learn, pre-dates it: I had assumed it was just another poor American remake). Make of it what you will... hey Swanny18, yeah, I think it is a mix of several characters. In the end, it is hard to make something completely new so I would not be surprised it is partly based on other tv-shows.Garnhami (talk) 18:48, 27 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The Soundtrack

[edit]

The choice of music for the show is excellent and includes many pieces unknown to American viewers. A list of music by episode would be a great add on here. 73.201.132.84 (talk) 03:50, 23 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I second that!!! Some of the music is similar (if not identical) to music used in "Ice Cold Murders" (original Italian title: "Rocco Schiavone") Sumsci (talk) 00:03, 13 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Language

[edit]

What is the spoken language in the series? It sounds a lot like Dutch, but not quite... Is it Flemish? It may be worth adding some detail for people outside the Low Countries. Sumsci (talk) 00:03, 13 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
