Changeover bell and the emergence of booths[edit]

Making some additions and tweaks just now, I've deleted the sentence "While the projector mechanism noise might be suppressed by the audience, the bell could not. Since the noise of the alert bell was clearly distracting to the audience the projection booth became required in movie theater design."

This is because the changeover alert bell wasn't the reason for segregated projection booths coming into use - nitrate fire safety was. Cued changeovers weren't in widespread use until the late teens anyway, a decade after a spate of nitrate fire disasters prompted safety legislation mandating booths throughout the US and Europe.
