History
[edit]The apostolic protonotary section had a long section copy-pasted from the old CE. I put the text at Protonotary Apostolic and I summarized that here. A wholesale revert back to a copy-pasted text seems a step backward. Based on the rest of this article (the short stubs for other sections), a long history section seems a little out of place. The very last sentence of the article starts out "Truman is also attributed with saying that...." That seems like an awkward construction to me. Substituting "recorded as" for "attributed with" would be an easy fix, but perhaps what Truman said is not "recorded" anywhere. --JGC1010 (talk) 00:55, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- Here in Philadelphia the story about Truman is attributed, apparently incorrectly, to Eisenhower, upon meeting the Prothonotary of a Philadelphia court. --DThomsen8 (talk) 02:06, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
Pronunciation
[edit]I've capitalized the word in the Canadian section since Prothonotaries take the same degree of deference as Judges here. I know that in Canada people are often surprised to know that it's pronounced proh-THON-oh-tory but I have no idea how to represent that in IPA. Any assistance? High-ranking notaries
[edit]Currently the lead says:
- "The title was awarded to certain high-ranking notaries."
and links notaries to solicitor if that is what is meant then I suggest that solicitor is displayed and linked in brackets.
- "The title was awarded to certain high-ranking notaries (solicitors)."
If notaries is meant then link it to the article notary:
- "The title was awarded to certain high-ranking notaries."
I'm just passing and linking another article to this one, so I will not make the change but hope that someone else who knows more about it will make the change to make the lead clearer.-- PBS (talk) 12:29, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
