References[edit]

Hey, most of the references in this article are links to project pages of Public Netbase (world-information.org, netbase.org etc.)
I don't think that counts as secondary sources. I mean, I guess it's ok to link to descriptions of the projects, but this article needs way more additional sources. Interstellarpoliceman (talk) 12:12, 2 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

GA tips[edit]

Way too short. Not comprehensive enough. Need more detail. Lead should summarize the article, not be a recitation of facts. Refs are off to a good start.Rlevse 00:56, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lede has been reformatted and some other tweaking. Will see what further information is available to expand beyond current structure. Serpent's Choice 06:32, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good Article[edit]

Rlevse appears to have left the project, so I'm going to be bold and pass this. I feel it meets the Good Article criteria. Although it's short, it's very well-cited and appears to cover a narrow topic in reasonable depth. I suspect it's simply too short to become an FA, but for further improvement, I would recommend a copyedit to polish the prose. If there are any other sources to be found, expansion would be welcome, but it's quite possible there's not much more to say that's encyclopedic. Thanks for your hard work, and congratulations. POV[edit]

This article shows how exciting and important Netbase was until the nasty government took away all its money. It reads like an apologia from Netbase itself. jnestorius(talk) 00:42, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have substantively reverted this to a previous version of the article. While some of the removed material may be able to find its way back in, the general tone of the reverted edits had a noticeably non-neutral bias and sparse-to-no referencing. I'd be happy to see a better, more comprehensive timeline of the events they were involved with - especially those with multi-national impact, but the article needs to guard its neutrality and ensure proper sourcing in order to accomplish that goal. Serpent's Choice (talk) 03:53, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

this part is still POV and should be rewritten. it quotes stuff published by members of public netbase (martin wassermair): >>However, the organization's successes were insufficient to stave off problems. Its lease at the Museumsquartier was not renewed after the controversial remodelling period in 2000, and it faced a series of audits and other bureaucratic obstacles. Financial difficulties and an inability to secure a permanent replacement location were never able to be resolved. Despite significant community support and a reorganization effort in 2005 that shortened its name to Netbase, the City of Vienna stopped all funding effective January 11, 2006, leading to the immediate shut down of the organization.<< Interstellarpoliceman (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 13:29, 10 April 2012 (UTC).[reply]

GA Reassessment[edit]

This discussion is transcluded from Talk:Public Netbase/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the reassessment.

In order to uphold the quality of Wikipedia:Good articles, all articles listed as Good articles are being reviewed against the GA criteria as part of the GA project quality task force. While all the hard work that has gone into this article is appreciated, unfortunately, as of September 25, 2008, this article fails to satisfy the criteria, as detailed below. For that reason, the article has been delisted from WP:GA. However, if improvements are made bringing the article up to standards, the article may be nominated at WP:GAN. If you feel this decision has been made in error, you may seek remediation at WP:GAR.

  • This article falls way short of the current good article criteria, most particularly in its failure to cover the major topics of its subject. I do not even believe that it met the GA criteria when it was originally passed as a GA.
  • Was Public Netbase always funded by the City of Vienna, and the City of Vienna alone? What about New Culture Technologies, how was that funded?
  • What was the extent of the public funding? How was it spent?
  • "Its lease at the Museumsquartier was not renewed after the controversial remodelling period in 2000 ...". What controversial remodelling?
  • "... it faced a series of audits and other bureaucratic obstacles ...". It's quite normal to be asked to asked to account for how public funds are spent. Why were Public Netbase unable to satisfy the authorities?
  • Was there any reaction to the closedown of Public Netbase? What happened to its founders?
