Maybe some disambiguation is needed. There is more than one Puerto Escondido in Mexico. "Coco" Nogales is associated with Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Not Puerto Escondido BCS (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Coco-nogales/136882213051658?id=136882213051658&sk=info).189.172.103.101 (talk) 05:31, 15 April 2014 (UTC) Puerto Escondido and Loreto are listed as different ports on the Mexican Port Aministration website, http://www.apibcs.com/puerto6.php. There is no 'village' or other community in Puerto Escondido. The French development was abandoned in its early stages, leaving abandoned canals, some sea walls and 4 abandoned buildings which are claimed by the Mexican government. The nearest community to Puerto Escondido is Tripui, a privately owned leasehold community, largely of ex-pat Americans and Canadians and a hotel and restaurant. It is about 1 kilometer from Puerto Escondido. A Singlar marina opened in 2006. Singlar was a subsidiary of the Mexican Tourist Foundtiaon, Fonatur (http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fonatur_%28M%C3%A9xico%29) responsible for development of nautical facilities. It has now been absorbed into Fonatur. Puerto Escondido is a natural harbor located at 25°48'40"N 111°18'29"W. The main harbor is about 1.8 km long and 1 km wide with a 30 meter wide entrance and 3 meter depth. It has been a popular anchorage with visiting sailors and is widely recognized as one of the best 'hurricane holes' in the Sea of Cortez (Mexico Boating Guide By Patricia Rains). Adjacent to the main harbor is an abandoned marina project, "the Ellipse" and seaward of the Ellipse is a large, somewhat protected anchorage known as the "Waiting Room" to sailors and "Enfermario" to local Mexicans. The port is administered by API-BCS (http://www.apibcs.com/) who charge for anchoring in the port. The inner harbor is leased to Fonatur who installed a small marina and moorings for rent. There is a small boatyard, grocery store and restaurant in the marina and a store, restaurant and hotel in Tripui, about 1 km from the port. Puerto Escondido lies within the Loreto Bay National Marine Park which became a United Nations World Heritage Site in 2005. There are 6 sizable islands and numerous smaller islands and rocky outcrops within a few miles of the port. They offer excellent diving and snorkeling. The spectacular Sierra Gigantes are within about 2 km of Puerto Escondido with rugged canyon trails for the more adventurous hikers.189.172.103.101 (talk) 05:16, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
