Possible article split

[edit]

Nice revision work on the article, Chunchucmil. At some point it will probably prove useful to split out the different scope for Puuc into separate articles, say one on the region and the other on the arch. style. Similarly for Rio Bec.--cjllw | TALK 07:33, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, glad you liked the work. I just added a bunch of references for those who want to research the topic further. I would suggest leaving all of the different meanings of Puuc within this article, but separating them by sub-headings. As I'm not a geologist, I'll leave the discussion of the Puuc region's geology to someone else. Any takers?? Chunchucmil 19:46, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No worries. I suppose that until such time as either sense accumulates enough info here to separate out, we can hold them all here per your suggestion. Do you know of any references which examine or concentrate on the Puuc region (Maya sites) as a whole? For the geology, I recall coming across at some point a Mexican govt resources site somewhere that had a few papers on it, will see if I can find it again.--cjllw | TALK 21:55, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The best resources to use for filling out this topic would be by Nicholas Dunning (see the references on the article page). He's a cultural geographer and has conducted extensive studies of the entire region (both archaeological and geological/environmental). Of course, for a great catalog of nearly every important site, you can't beat H.E.D. Pollock's work (also in the references).Chunchucmil 19:05, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the pointers, Chunc. Might see if I can track down a copy.--cjllw | TALK 04:52, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Height of hills?

[edit]

This seems a significant omission. I have no idea, reading this, whether the highest hill in the area rises to 300m or 3000m. 86.149.0.249 16:26, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, they are hills, not mountains ;-)
A valid point though- IIRC their maximum elevation is somewhere around 120–150 m asl, just as soon as I can track down a definitive source I'll look to add it in. Thanks for the prompting, though you or anyone else would be more than welcome to track down the info yourself. Cheers, --cjllw ʘ TALK 02:20, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
