I removed the highest airport in the world, as San Rafael Airport, Peru has an altitude of 4397.

Any suggestions about the purpose of this airport? There are no significant settlements, nor any visible military facilities around. ?? NVO (talk) 00:13, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Runway length[edit]

A quick look in Google Earth shows that although the paved surface is 5500 m, only 4200 m of that is used. The remainder has chevrons painted on its surface, meaning it's not intended to be used (although it clearly was when the runway was constructed). These stopways (contrary to displaced tresholds) should not be included when stating the length of the runway. PiusImpavidus (talk) 09:51, 11 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Another look in Google Earth shows that the 5500m runway is no longer used, not even the 4200m used previously. The new 4000m runway now appears to be the only runway at the airport, meaning that this airport no longer has the longest runway in the world, at least not a functioning one.
