Dr. Seuss

[edit]

The bibliography should mention that he illustrated Dr. Seuss's Great Day for Up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.105.128.56 (talk) 21:57, 8 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The following link needs to be updated because People's Archive has now been moved to a new website called Web of Stories:

  • {{peoples Archive|id=6658|title=Quentin Blake}}

The correct link to the Web of Stories website (http://webofstories.com) should be:

1980 winner at Greenaway Medal Living Archive (2007?)

--P64 (talk) 21:53, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Today I recovered a few {dead link} via Internet Archive. Blake's slightly out-of-date official list of books is evidently important (see next section). I recovered 2 or 3 without checking their content.
All weblinks are working now.
For Children's Laureate i provided the official list of Previous laureates but noticed that there is distinct page for each. For Blake, Children's Laureate 1999-2001 may be worth reading.
Hours later: As official [ref name=laureate] I replaced the list of previous winners with that specific page. It's a biographical blurb plus review of his Laureateship. I suppose that he defined the Laureate role in some respects and guess that his term of office is worth coverage in a separate section.

(Among other things during these intervening hours, I provided the corresponding official specific [ref name=laureate] in all eight Category:British Children's Laureate. Fixed some other things in these pages but didn't use any of the Children's Laureate blurbs as substantial sources.) --P64 (talk) 22:51, 28 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Roald Dahl, Blake as illustrator only

[edit]

Blake may be known best for illustrating books written by Roald Dahl but this article does not identify one of them!

Is section Selected works complete for books written and illustrated by Blake? I doubt it. If so, that should be stated (and the list may need update).

Anyway, some of the books that Blake merely illustrated --including at least one by Dahl-- must be worth listing here. --P64 (talk) 19:35, 1 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Official list of books. Today I recovered the quentinblake.com "Bibliography" via Internet Archive, or [ref name=bibliog]. The automatic search and sort functions are lost by this copy, archived 2012-01-16. Using a webbrowser search function I counted Blake listings and Dahl listings.
  • There are 38 Author1 entries for Blake including 3 as editor; one Author2 entry for a foreword by Blake. This matches our report of 35 books written by Blake.
  • There are 20-odd Author1 entries for Dahl; I lost count. This exceeds our report of 18 books written by Dahl and illustrated by Blake. I noticed that the 20-odd include 1995 editions of Dahl's three famous Charlie and James books.
  • I don't know whether the 323 listings include multiple editions of any books. A note at top right says that 321 books are listed.
  • The list is out of date and may be incomplete now.
  • I removed the {citation needed} tag from our report of 35 and 18, despite qualifications noted here.
Blake's top twenty books reported by WorldCat include 17 written by Dahl.Quentin Blake#Notes
The page now includes my hidden comments during three 2012-2013 visits, regarding all this. They may be cleaned up after more careful use of the official Bibliography, or replaced by references to this talk page.

Images?

[edit]

How can there be a page about an artist without a single image of any of their work? Surely there must be something in the public domain. --Michael K SmithTalk 15:01, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Today's edits

[edit]

The net effect of my edits today:

  • restore version 12:05, 3 August 2013 Dimadick (undo one vandalism and innocuous net effects of other IP visits)
  • tweak Persondata and various references (plenty of irregular refs remain)
  • recover all {dead link} via Internet Archive
  • resolve all {citation needed} (largely with recovered [ref name=bibliog])

Thus the page departs seven hidden categories, a personal record for me ;–)
