Pending vs nominated

[edit]

Those who have been formally nominated are "nominated" for awards, not "pending." 76.122.130.134 please explain your reverts to "pending?" Revmqo (talk) 23:37, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Swahili accuracy?

[edit]

The article currently contains this line: "while her mother has stated that zhané means "fairy" in Swahili.[8]" While her mother may have stated this, I believe it is patently untrue as a fact about Swahili. 'Zhané' with the same pronunciation as in the name is not consistent with the phonology of Swahili (it has no [ʒ]) nor its orthography (no <zh> or <é>). 38 seconds on google reveals a dictionary listing the word 'jini' [dʒini] for fairy, presumably the inspiration for this 'zhané' thing. Should this be mentioned in some capacity? Right now it reads as if this is a fact, when (in fact) it's not the case. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WmGB (talkcontribs) 19:57, 26 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Adding back info about her name. Many people presumably come to Wikipedia to learn about her unusual name, so it is unrealistic to omit this information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.252.248.68 (talk) 17:07, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

yYah, most people come to Wikipedia to learn about her name, therefore we should accept obviously wrong and incorrect info. Great logic. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.146.103.19 (talk) 17:49, 22 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It's presumably an intentional alteration of Swahili jini, intended to sound more euphonious. We can't say that, of course, but we do have a cite that Swahili is the intended source, and plenty of RS's that the Sw word is jini, so we could combine them that way. — kwami (talk) 01:24, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation

[edit]

The summaries of the pronunciation in our source do not match how she pronounces her name in that same source, which is /kwəˈvændʒəneɪ/ kwə-VAN-jə-nay. Not unusual for a magazine to be incompetent in such things. — kwami (talk) 01:24, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
