School Information and Location[edit]

Hello. New user here. How do I provide information on the school's current admissions practices without using the school's handbook, since that was deemed a promo source?

Also, the information at the bottom of the page lists REBUL Academy as part of education in Sunflower County. The school is located in Hinds County.

Lastly, how can the title of the page be changed? REBUL should be capitalized instead of "Rebul."

Thanks! CDilmore.RA (talk) 02:11, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

CDilmore.RA, It's easy, find an WP:INDEPENDENT, WP:SECONDARY reliable source. The school handbook is published by the school, and while it's sometimes better than nothing for non-controversial information, it is far better to find just about any source other than the subject of the article itself! — Jacona (talk) 14:52, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the information and for removing the Sunflower County information. I understand the difference between independent/secondary sources, but the school's current anti-discrimination policy can only be found on the school's website and within the handbook. Could it be written, "According to the school's handbook..."? Writing it that way would not mislead readers and would show that it is indeed coming from a possible promo source.
Question: how do I add the school's emblem? Wikipedia's editor and I are still working out our learning pains! CDilmore.RA (talk) 16:56, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
CDilmore.RA, If there's not an WP:INDEPENDENT, WP:SECONDARY source, why should it be in the article at all? — Jacona (talk) 18:02, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Given REBUL's origin and history, the updated information would show readers that it is no longer a segregation academy and does not discriminate like it did years ago. CDilmore.RA (talk) 18:15, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just looking at it from the standpoint of what other schools and colleges do. For example, look at Harvard University's page. Many references come from various student handbooks. CDilmore.RA (talk) 18:19, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see your problem, you would like to present your school in a positive light. But has the school really changed from the segregation academy roots? Have you ever had even one Black student? I could find no evidence of one on the internet. — Jacona (talk) 18:29, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, we have. And I'm not sure why the reported numbers show that we haven't. Beginning in the early 1990s, Black, Hispanic, and Asian students have graduated from REBUL Academy. A simple walk through the school hallway with senior portraits would show this. Our current enrollment is 84% White and 16% Multiracial. CDilmore.RA (talk) 18:37, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The graduation and sports pics on your school website are all White kids. You should update the website if you want to sell the non-discrimination story. As far as the encyclopedia goes, we really must have an independent source that says something, or it's just original research, which is not allowed. As the Assistant Head of School, can't you think of some way to document the diversity independently? Jacona (talk) 18:56, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The new website is currently being built. You might check out the school's public Facebook page and you will see photos of non-White students. Yes, the last few years' graduates have been White, but we should not take away from their accomplishments by not posting their photos. Question: wouldn't anything I or the school publish not be an independent source?
There are sources, such as this one - https://www.privateschoolreview.com/rebul-academy-profile - that show a more recent demographic percentage (6% students of color), but like Wikipedia, I believe that site can be edited by users. CDilmore.RA (talk) 19:11, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
True, but wouldn't you know when and where the school is mentioned in some other media like local news, stuff like that? Usually there is lots of that sort of stuff for schools, but sometimes it's hard to find if you don't know where to look for it. Jacona (talk) 19:15, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Outside of the horrible incident in 2020 prior to my arrival at the school, REBUL has not been mentioned in the news in recent years (something we are indeed trying to change). The local news has not reported events at the school in years. Independent demographic information is dependent upon outside sources, such as MAIS, which has not been updated recently.
