Plea for help

[edit]

HI, I have been trying to empty the memory of my rex 6000 but couldn't. I keep deleteing the info manualy on the rex and never sync it with th PC because don't need to. I only use it a a diary and the soft I hae is not compatible with XP.

Now, how can I get some space back on the rex memory. Every time I delete info it seems to be filling up. I have looked for xp soft but can't seem to find it.

Can anyone help??

Thanks —83.134.242.98 20:22, 25 October 2004 (UTC)

what you should do is to use Rex Tools to defrag your Rex6000. you should visit www.rex6000.org or www.rexforum.com. there are lots of info there. —165.21.154.16 16:15, 22 November 2004 (UTC)
The Rex 6000 WinNT software will work with WinXP if you connect by way of the USB cradle. The software will not work when connecting by way of a PCMCIA slot. I do not know whether it will work when using an RS-232-serial-port cradle, but my guess is that it will. —SlamDiego 09:31, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PCMCIA

[edit]

You can get it working with the PCMCIA slot and Windows XP. It seems that the Rex installation software gets fooled by high COM port numbers in a system. What you need to do is to carry out installation normally, until you get to the stage when you plug in your Rex into the slot and the Rex software cannot find it. At this point, you go to the registry editor and look for references to Rex and somewhere there is the COM port where the Rex should be looked for. You need to manually edit the port number to the one that represents your PCMCIA slot. In my recollection, I needed to change COM3 or something that the Rex installer put there by COM8. From that point on, everything should work normally.

With the serial port and cradle, I had no installation problems under XP. In either arrangement, I synchronize the Rex with Outlook.

Xircom branded Rex 5000

[edit]

The successor Rex 5000 was not only sold Franklin branded. I have got a Model 5000 Xircom branded. Like http://www.cnet.com/products/xircom-rex-5000-handheld-series/ just silver instead of black. Maybe it's officially the 5001 even though it's labelled 5000. http://www.geek.com/hwswrev/pda/rex5k1/ does not show the backside of the Rex 5001; the frontside looks exactly like mine.
