Subjectivity?[edit]

Is it just me,[edit]

Eastern bloc[edit]

Removed the following paragraph because it was not clear exactly where the quotation came in. There were no quotation marks or anything else to so indicate:

During the Soviet times, state-run news agencies participated in Eastern Bloc information dissemination. According to Tomas Schuman, a.k.a. Yuri Bezmenov, in his book Love Letter To America (1984 W.I.N. Almanac Panorama, ISBN 0-935090-13-4) The Novosti Press Agency exists to produce slanted and false stories to plant in the foreign media. The term for this KGB effort is "disinformation". The Novosti Press Agency is the communist equivalent of the Ministry of Truth from the George Orwell novel 1984.

Official name[edit]

Their official English language Web site lists them as "The Russian News & Information Agency RIA Novosti": [1] This seems authoritative enough, so I am adding the "The" and the "& News" part to the intro line. 74.72.103.79 (talk) 03:07, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I can see why you would think that, but it seems that all the other pages on the RIA website refer simply to "RIA Novosti." The page you referred to simply explains in the headline what RIA Novosti is; that is, "The [only] Russian news & information agency." Unfortunately, the headline used a kaps-and-lower-case style so it looks like the cited phrase is part of the name instead of a phrase explaining just what RIA Novosti actually is. mistake in transcription[edit]

The transcription of "Федеральное государственное унитарное предприятие Российское агентство международной информации «РИА Новости»", is rather ..." Still operating?[edit]

This entire article is written in the past tense, yet using the English link at the bottom, I get redirected to http://en.ria.ru/ which appears to still be getting updated with news stories and bears the name "RIA Novosti" at the top. You can't take out the fact that RIA Novosti was actually liquidated and replaced by Russia Today, just because the website is still in operation, under whatever leadership past or present, the fact the Putin liquidated RIA Novosti is still a true fact. 99.99.51.64 (talk) 17:01, 18 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

RIA Novosti has been operating 6 years after it became 'defunct'[edit]

I haven't found much coverage and I don't know what to say except it is very apparent from their website [ria.ru] that they are obviously not defunct as they are still publishing articles.
