Contested deletion

He is the tallest member This page should not be speedily deleted because this article has independent reliable sources that establish him as a solo artist. He has collaborated with artists not with his group but only by himself. His other solo works also include endorsements and variety shows that only he participated in. I do not know what was going on for the past deleted pages of him, but I believe this article should be kept. Please remove the phrase "and boyfriend Kim Seokjin"

Please remove "and boyfriend Kim Seokjin" from the opening summary bio as soon as possible. This statement is coming out of fan ships and not out of any statements Namjoon or Seokjin have made. The statement does not help the group or Namjoon, new fans who come to this page to get basic information will be mislead by the claim, possibly harming BTS and Namjoon's reputations. Please remove this as soon as possible. Thank you. -E Lightersflame (talk) 16:07, 22 March 2017 (UTC)

Again, please delete the ", boyfriend Kim Seok-Jin"

I've seen it as a discussion topic already, but strangely, although it states that the issue's been solved, it still isn't. I'd have deleted it myself but as it seems, I don't have the permission to do so.

To be honest, I am a fangirl myself and pretty much into shipping, but it is just wrong to present some rumored/imagined relationship as a real fact. Shipping is all fun and games, but don't mistake fantasy for reality, respectively mix them up so that so called "alternative facts" or simply lies get to be spread even more on the Internet. This is simply stupid and not even confirmed information, so please. Erase it.

Thank you very much. Algenqueen (talk) 18:11, 27 March 2017 (UTC)

RM instead of Rap Monster

Namjoon has recently begun to refer to himself as "RM" instead of Rap Monster because he feels that the name is not well suited for him anymore. I think, although it will probably be a lengthy process, it would be a good idea to make this change to his Wiki as well. OLIVIAMUIR (talk) 03:23, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

Official name changed to RM

13th November 2017, his stage name was officially changed from Rap Monster to RM. His reasoning was 'This was a name I that stuck to me because of one of my raps in which I shouted "RAP MONSTER"! and I kept it because I wanted a name that would express me but now I think it's too much and I have grown out of it'. When inquired what the meaning of RM was now, he replied 'I don't know, maybe "Real Me" or something' Rhoswenwaiba (talk) 23:51, 22 November 2017 (UTC)

I know this was added but Rap Monster should not be the title Rhoswenwaiba (talk) 23:55, 22 November 2017 (UTC)

He’s still most commonly known as Rap Monster as RM is a very recent change, which could be why the article name hasn’t been changed yet. The article does take note of the change though. Alexanderlee (talk) 00:21, 23 November 2017 (UTC)

Rap MonsterRM (rapper) – The page content has already been revamped to use his new stage name; now we just need to have it officially be renamed. Here are the sources the article uses to explain the name change: [1] and an official statement (in Korean) by BTS themselves [2]. Other official publications discussing the change: [3]. RM even said he changed his name himself in an interview and justified it: [4]. The extension of Rapper is because RM is a disambiguation page which we, of course, cannot rename, and rapping is what he's best known for. Nyantatata (talk) 03:37, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

Kim Namjoon's favorite colour is black and favorite number is one. He's food preference is knife noodles(칼국수). His IQ is 148 and he has learned English by watching "Friends". The reason why he had changed his stage name to Rap Monster was because in a song he had to shout out Rap Monster at the end so then everyone started to call him that. 388978Qw (talk)

Also in RM's filmography section, he was a cast member for the first 22 episodes of Problematic Men so it seems that should be listed with either hosting or somewhere else one the list.

Crying Over You

I'm hoping there will eventually be some press about this we can cite, but RM featured on a version of Honne's new "Crying Over You" collaboration with Bibi Zhou. The version with him on it seems to have been released by mistake by a Chinese music streaming site on March 8th and was only available for a few hours before it was replaced by a version with only Honne and Bibi Zhou. Assuming an article we can cite eventually gets written, how would something like this be handled on his discography? Baepsayed (talk) 15:59, 8 March 2019 (UTC)

@Baepsayed: unless the version is officially released then there is no reason for it to be mentioned in the discography, even if an article is published stating that it was mistakenly uploaded before being removed. Alexanderlee (talk) 18:44, 8 March 2019 (UTC)
I saw an article that said due to agency disputes RM was not going to be on it so I believe that will be the final version. Ukiss2ne14lyfe (talk) 23:19, 8 March 2019 (UTC)

Honne just tweeted about it coming out officially on March 27th so I think that makes this whole discussion moot at this point. Baepsayed (talk) 20:39, 25 March 2019 (UTC)

RM wasn't born in Dongjak-gu, South Korea. He was born in Ilsan-gu, Goyang, South Korea. In RM's United Nations speech, he states that "I was born in Ilsan, a city near Seoul, South Korea. Philanthropy

Urtsa (talk) 09:52, 20 December 2020 (UTC) According to the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA), RM made a generous donation of 100 million won (approximately $84,200) for his birthday on September 12.[1] A South Korean specialized school received a donation of 100 million Korean won, the equivalent of around $83,745 USD, as a donation from BTS’ RM to commemorate his recent birthday.[2]

According to local reports, the Seoul Samsung School received the donation from the BTS rapper to help students with hearing impairments receive music education. It was donated last week, as the star turned 25 on Sept. 12.[3] [4] Urtsa (talk) 09:52, 20 December 2020 (UTC)

Not done, trivial.  Ganbaruby! (Say hi!) 03:19, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

No mention of the giant controversy he caused in China? A 1.4 billion people market?

BTS faced boycott calls in China in 2020 after RM endorsed the alliance between the United States and South Korea during the Korean War. In 2021, Chinese streaming sites Youku, iQIYI, and Tencent Video have removed scenes featuring the band in Friends: The Reunion in which they expressed their love for the 1990s sitcom in an interview, with its leader RM saying he learned English by watching Friends.

Deleting the above is censorship of bad news. These are notable event in his personal and the band's history. I am all for their opportunity to make money in China and his freedom of speech! Thanks. Supermann (talk) 19:30, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

@Supermann: for so-called "controversies" to be mentioned on BLP articles such as this one, the issue must have received significant coverage by multiple reliable sources to meet notability. The footage cut of the band's brief appearance in the Friends Reunion was covered by all of 3 sources: Vice, Uproxx, and Variety, who also mentioned that Ariana and Justin Bieber's footage was also cut, not just BTS. So not notable enough. That is why I reverted you. And for future reference, if you want a "controversy" included in a BLP article, it's better to seek consensus first on the talk page, to determine whether the info actually warrants it or not. If it does, then an approved summarized write up of all the facts surrounding the matter must be created w appropriate sources for insertion in the article. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 03:33, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
It's mentioned beyond those three sources. The Hollywood Reporter, NYTimes, BBC, LA Times and so much so forth. Plus, this is beyond Friends Reunion. You need to hark back to 2020 and the Korean War which was completely omitted on this page in the first place. That's why I boldly edited and reverted and moved onto the talk page.  Not done: Hello Magickoya, and welcome to Wikipedia! Wikipedia has strict standards regarding the copyright of material, especially in regards to images. Any proposed image that you would like to insert into the article would have to fall under a compatible license or the original copyright holder give explicit permission to the Wikimedia Foundation to host it.
Furthermore, edit requests should generally be used for uncontroversial edits to a page. Changing images, since they are so prominent, tend to be controversial by default. Thus, people who go through the edit request queue want to see consensus before they implement such changes themselves.
Do not let this discourage you, though! Wikipedia is big and has lots of policies and rules, and it can take some time to acclimate. A good place to ask questions is the Teahouse, a venue specifically for new editors to ask any question that crosses their mind. The introduction to Wikipedia page may also be of use to you. Content

I feel this content pertains more to the group than it does RM individually. I think it should be removed. During BTS' ninth anniversary celebrations in June 2022, RM and all other BTS members announced a "hiatus" to allow them some time to rest. He described what he saw as a shortcoming of the K-pop industry, saying "they don't give you the time to mature" alluding to his busy daily schedule. RM also said that going forward, the band members would devote more attention to individual music endeavors and that future projects would be released as commercial albums, complete with promotional activities, instead of as free or unpromoted mixtapes. Btspurplegalaxy 💬 🖊️ 04:50, 9 March 2023 (UTC)

You would be correct. Ivana already took care of it, but if anyone tries to add it again in the future, you won't have to wonder before reverting. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 17:10, 9 March 2023 (UTC)

Change the picture

This is an old photo of RM current being used. He has recently debuted as a solo artist and his Wikipedia should reflect this, with pictures that are used across other platforms, e.g. Spotify and Weverse all use the same picture of RM from his recent photoshoot for his debut album. Therkive (talk) 14:17, 23 May 2023 (UTC)

Do you mean the cover art for Indigo? There are other different shots of him as well. Vacosea (talk) 20:42, 23 May 2023 (UTC)

RM has no religion, but he believes in God.

On BTS Map Of The Soul ON:E Concert Day 2, Kim Namjoon revealed that he has no religion, but he thanks a God that we live...

Correct that page to truth, now!

Here's a proof.

Deleting tables

I suggest deleting the Music videos table and the Trailers and short films table from the Filmography section, since most of the information already exists in a more updated form in RM discography#Music videos section. Thanks! 2A01:6502:6457:3102:9814:57DF:5BC4:4959 (talk) 15:54, 14 July 2023 (UTC)

Both tables have been removed. I completely forgot that they were still on the page. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 18:36, 14 July 2023 (UTC)

RM (musician)RM (rapper) – First of all, I would like to you inform you about one thing that make people a musician: He/She mainly plays musical instruments. And with the article title, I would like to apologize I did not intend to request RM's page be changed to use a "(musician)" instead of "(rapper)". It was just an accident when I tried to make redirects to RM's article. So, can we change the article title back to "RM (rapper)"? RMXY (talk) 10:34, 2 September 2023 (UTC)

  • Support and speedy close. Previous requested moves: 2016, 2017, June 2023, August 2023. Since the current title is the result of that June 2023 nomination, which was made by OP and had no other support, I'd say it can be uncontroversially be reverted per WP:RMUM. 162 etc. (talk) 16:19, 2 September 2023 (UTC)
  • Skeptical. That does not seem supported by WP:SINGERDAB: Use "(musician)" when the person is known for their work in other musical fields, like writing songs or producing music for other artists (e.g. Drake (musician)). The first sentence says this person is also a songwriter and record producer. Is this disagreeing with the guideline? — BarrelProof (talk) 17:39, 2 September 2023 (UTC)
I would agree that notability as a songwriter is debatable. He has very little credits not attached to BTS artists and no in-depth critical reviews of his songwriting efforts.Evaders99 (talk) 23:04, 2 September 2023 (UTC)
Since when is notability as a songwriter restricted to solo projects only? This usually encompasses a musician's writing throughout their career, does it not? There's detailed reviews for both his solo projects and his extensive work as part of BTS. I think the 'musician' disambiguation is applicable and dare I say more accurate than just 'rapper'. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 04:24, 3 September 2023 (UTC)
  • Oppose the rapper dab feels too restrictive. Also agree with Carlobunnie. - Ïvana (talk) 05:39, 3 September 2023 (UTC)
  • Oppose, musician is a better disambiguator as RM is not just a rapper, he also write songs and produces music. Lightoil (talk) 10:04, 3 September 2023 (UTC)
  • Too restrictive RM is no longer only a rapper as he explores other activities related to producing music. Vacosea (talk) 13:44, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
  • Oppose per WP:SINGERDAB Btspurplegalaxy 💬 🖊️ 01:11, 5 September 2023 (UTC)
  • Oppose (explained some of my thoughts above but didn't put down a vote, and also per the opposes voiced by the other editors prior to my vote.) -- — Preceding unsigned comment added by Carlobunnie (talkcontribs) 02:00, September 5, 2023 (UTC)
