Ghost photograph connection[edit]

http://www.frogview.com While just a small part of the ship's history, it begs mention, I think. I've seen it listed in several different books on the paranormal. --RyanTee82 (talk) 06:38, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Potential name change (2016)[edit]

Since the site hasn't been used by the Royal Navy for twenty years I propose that the name is changed to Daedalus Enterprise Zone (which consists of Solent Airport, Faraday Business Park and Swordfish Business) which I believe it the original naval base divided up into the three sections.

Any comments? Gavbadger (talk) 16:41, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I think that it would make more sense to make a seprate article on the Daedalus Enterprise Zone, and to say that it is "located on the site of the former RNAS Lee on Solent" ---EngineeringEditor (talk) 16:08, 18 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 11 August 2023[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Consensus to split. There is a consensus against moving, as editors consider the two entities distinct and believe that of the two HMS Daedalus is the more notable.

However, there is a consensus to split, either now or when sufficient coverage becomes available to establish the notability of Solent Airport Daedalus. @Necrothesp, Steelpillow, Tony Holkham, and Gavbadger: Ping editors who advocated for a split but did not state their disinterest in doing so; are any of you willing and able to implement this? RNAS Lee-on-Solent (HMS Daedalus)Solent Airport Daedalus – The site is now operating under that name, as the article acknowledges and as shown at, for example https://www.solentairport.co.uk/ Harris (talk) 09:32, 11 August 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. ModernDayTrilobite (talkcontribs) 15:08, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. Its notability is almost entirely down to its Royal Navy use. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:59, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    • Note that I'd be fine with splitting as well. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:59, 21 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Split in two. HMS Daedalus is clearly a notable historic Naval institution deserving of its own article. Solent Airport Daedalus is a modern civilian airport which has gained in coverage here and equally clearly that will be expanding over time. Rather than try to mash the one into the other, it seems better to give them each their own space and cross-link them. A related possibility might be to have a third, overview article on the site and its activities, but it would need sufficient WP:RS to support the notability of the site in its own right, and most sources are concerned with one or other of the airports, not the ground they are built on. — Cheers, Steelpillow (Talk) 15:39, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Split in two is the only sensible option, as per above. But it is quite a big job, not one that I would engage in. As log as a split cannot be managed, keep as is; certainly do not rename or move. Jan olieslagers (talk) 15:47, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose move. When/if enough RS available, make Solent Airport separate article. Tony Holkham (Talk) 16:04, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Side remark: In no case should we call it an "airport"; our very own definition of an airport requires the availability of facilities for commercial air transport; as far as I know, none are present here, so we should call it (informally) "Solent Airfield" or more formally but perhaps confusingly "Solent Aerodrome". Neither can I find an IATA code for it, though this is (in this part of the world) a pre-requisite for the issuance of passenger tickets. Jan olieslagers (talk) 17:29, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What we editors think it is or isn't does not matter. Its current proper name is Solent Airport Daedalus (capitalised), we have to use that. If it is not actually a proper airport then we should say something like "Solent Airport Daedalus is an airfield which...". Steelpillow (Talk) 08:38, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Split in two. Create Solent Airport Daedalus and move current information there. Gavbadger (talk) 18:01, 21 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
