Live after 1880[edit]

First Locomotive Made[edit]

The article states that the Modling for Vienna in 1831 was the first locomotive product. No citation is provided for this. I am working in the North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers, yards from the factory site and in part paid for by Robert Stephenson with whom Hawthorns later amalgamated. They were neighbours. In the library collection item 929.2 RSH is a generous catalogue from the combined company issued c1952/53. In the section headed "A Brief History of the Company" it states "The brothers Hawthorn entered the locomotive business in 1831, when they delivered their first engine "The Coronation" to the Stockton & Darlington Railway". The source for the Modling claim would appear to be Graces Guide. Behind it, is I think British Steam Locomotive Builders by Lowe, Goose & Son, 1975 (which I have), page 313 is the source of the Modling claim. But try as I might looking for early Austrian locomotives away from this source and I do not get this engine. Robertforsythe (talk) 20:37, 26 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This source would suggest a typo has taken place in sources and that the Modling is 1841. This would make much better sense. Locomotive list in German. Robertforsythe (talk) 14:36, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
