Confusion between Raleigh T. Colston and Raleigh E. Colston

[edit]

I'm obviously not in a library on Christmas day but was trying to clear up confusion about another West Virginia Confederate officer. When I was in a Virginia research library last week, I opened a book which listed a number of units named the 2nd Virginia, but which only listed officers upon the unit's formation, which my subject wasn't. I have no idea when I can get to Martinsburg and clear up the confusion at a research library, much less correct the current 2nd Virginia infantry article to name the different units. FYI, Appleton's Cyclopedia vol. 7 pp. 72-73 also appears to confuse the two cousins, making making this controversial and flamboyant Raleigh E. Colston a descendant of another Raleigh Colston. His younger cousin, Raleigh T. Colston, son of Edward Colston who may or may not have been this Raleigh's guardian in Berkeley, graduated from VMI later, served in a different unit (2nd Virginia not 16th Virginia) and died during the war, whereas this general survived the war.Jweaver28 (talk) 21:50, 25 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Came across him again, and apparently need to create an article for their grandfather, though I don't know when!Jweaver28 (talk) 20:22, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
