Admiral Chekov

Maybe I'm nitpicking, but as I understand it, in the U.S. in the 1860s, the rank of admiral didn't exist. It was "flag officer". Trekphiler 13:16, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just for the sake of clarification (and in the interest of being less bitchy than I was above), I believe the rank of Rear Admiral was created early on during the Civil War, while the rank of Admiral (that is, "full" Admiral) was indeed a post-War creation. Arne Saknussemm

Original research

@Tranmere Robur: There may be authors who have speculated that Semmes was an inspiration for Verne and Stevenson, and it’s fair to include a mention of their views. But well over half the article is devoted to original research seeking to prove those points. Oh god yes, this article is really bad. Refer to WP:SYNTH. You can't just cite one fact, cite another fact, and then write a claim asserting a connection. You need to cite the connection itself. Most of this article is just directly taken from Lamb and I'm either suspicious that it is written by Lamb himself, or it's a copyvio. In any case you should not base an entire article on this individual who probably doesn't pass the reliable sources filter. Fangz (talk) 16:37, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
