Name abbreviation and more work necessary[edit]

I don't know when I'll be able to get to Fredericksburg on a Saturday morning to read the cited thesis and check the canal's signage, much less clean up this article. On Friday I learned that Alexander J. Marshall was perhaps the canal's primary mover, at least in the 1840s and 1850s, but don't know when I can do further research in Fredericksburg, much less Warrenton and Baltimore.Jweaver28 (talk) 16:41, 9 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
