Actually no, the first chief of the SAF in its early days was a Eurasian by the name of BG TJ Campell [1] — Preceding unsigned comment added by Foxhound66 (talkcontribs) 13:57, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The post of Chief of Army is a fairly recent one. Since the post was created there have been no non-Chinese in it. StrPby (talk) 23:49, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your source for it being "fairly recent?"Foxhound66 (talk) 17:10, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The same one used in the article, Sunday Times from 6 March. StrPby (talk) 23:04, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sure TJ Campell was the first COA and CDFFoxhound66 (talk) 10:04, 10 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I quote from the Sunday Times, 6 March: "The Defence Ministry (Mindef) has clarified that in 1982, the appointment of Chief of Army did not exist". Likewise, the appointment of CDF was only created in May 1990 ("Gen Choo was Chief of General Staff (renamed Chief of Defence Force in May 1990)". Anyway, your link is actually much appreciated, I'm adding a mention of that to the CDF article to note the existence of that position. Also, are you dead certain he was Eurasian? In the link you provided, his rank is given as "Brigadier" – a non-existent rank within the SAF. Is it possible that he was a British-appointed director of general staff, since Lee Kuan Yew himself said the late Dr Goh Keng Swee was de facto in charge from 1970-74 as Minister for Defence? Yes he was Eurasian. Brigadier=BG.Foxhound66 (talk) 10:32, 10 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm aware that the two ranks hold equal stature, but my point was that if he is referred to as simply "Brigadier", which isn't a rank within the SAF (with the equivalent rank, as you pointed out, being BG), maybe he wasn't Singaporean? I can't say for certain, however. In any case, I hope the quotes I've provided you go some way to clarifying the matter of the appointments of COA and CDF being recent. how do you defined Singaporean even then and now? BG Singh is stated to be originally from India. Eurasian is a ethnic group from the Straits and no where else. In the early days, Singapore adopted British ranks.Foxhound66 (talk) 10:46, 10 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You quote from the Straits Times. So do I but instead I go tback further into its archives to show so a)There were non Chinese heads of the Army b)Campbell was around when Singapore gained independence.Other dictionaries are better (talk) 18:10, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
