Design philosophy[edit]

He's famous for the MAYA principle - Most Advanced Yet Acceptable. A bio http://www.raymondloewy.com/about/bio.html explains, He believed that, "The adult public's taste is not necessarily ready to accept the logical solutions to their requirements if the solution implies too vast a departure from what they have been conditioned into accepting as the norm."

Image copyright problem with File:Spar-logo.svg[edit]

German-American?[edit]

Then it should say that he was French-American, not "French-born American" as it suggests that he gave up his French citizenship, which he never even intended to as he moved back to his native France in his old age.

On a similar note, how important is it really to mention his Jewish heritage? And so early at that – in the introduction paragraph. I think that's kinda racist. The German version of this article doesn't mention it at all. Wouldn't it be wiser to, at least, move that information into the Life section? I think the best way of going about it would be to check out Einstein's wiki article which is qualified as a "good article." They are similar in that Einstein is another non-observant Jew where his Jewish roots help to define who he is but has nothing to do with why he is famous. In it, Einstein's German heritage is listed at the top while his Jewish heritage is listed in the life section. However, I'm a little hesitant about even calling Loewy Jewish as I see nothing about his mother (the traditional definition of how Jews define who his Jewish). Some less observant sects of Judaism say it can also go through the father however. I think the best course of action with this is to check out how wiki does this in other articles where the father is Jewish and the mother is not. In my non-expert opinion, I think to avoid the issue completely, the currently defined: "Loewy's father was of a famed Jewish lineage" is perfect. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.133.32.10 (talk) 14:35, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Coca-Cola bottle[edit]

The Coca-Cola bottle was designed by the Root Glass Company of Terre Haute, Indiana, in 1916, before Loewy ever arrived in the USA. Says so right on Coca-Cola's web site. So I took that reference out. He did work on vending machines, though. 66.188.81.194 (talk) 07:49, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm still trying to track down a reference for this, but Loewy's involvement with Coke was to design a version of the bottle that would vend easily from a machine. On November 5, 2013, Loewy was honoured with a Google Doodle showing a locomotive bearing a resemblance to the K4s Pacific #3768 shroud design, using the wheels of the train to form the word Google. [1]
