A fact from Rd Mochtar appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 7 August 2012 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that the nobleman Mochtar acted in 69 films in his nearly 60-year career?
There is a serious inconsistency in the spelling of the name for this article. The lead paragraph itself says he is often credited as "Rd. Mochtar", and the caption of the photograph reads "Rd. Mochtar," so why is there no period (a.k.a. full stop) in his name as the title of this article? The article for Gagak Item at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gagak_Item links to this using the spelling without the period. So does the article for Moestika dari Djemar, yet that article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moestika_dari_Djemar) also cites another actor named "Rd. Kosasie" (with the period).
I don't know what "Rd" or "Rd." is exactly, whether it's a common title or abbreviation, whether it's derived from Raden... but whatever its origin, some consistency of spelling is required.
This is entirely separate from the other serious question of whether this article should instead be titled by the actor's actual name "Raden Mochtar," or "Hajji Raden Mochtar." zadignose (talk) 06:49, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That is my fault, as I am used to adding periods after abbreviations (Rd is, after all, an abbreviation of Raden). I have fixed it here.
Regarding the article title, see WP:COMMONNAME. He was credited as Rd Mochtar, so that is how the article should be titled. That being said, his actual name was simply Mochtar; Raden is an honorific. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 06:53, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
