Name[edit]

Article is here, rather than at Chinese xionghuang wine or more accurate realgar liquor, per googling showing that this is the common English name. The article but not the title use the umlauted ä to show that it is pronounced re-al-gar and not real-gar, despite the nonumlauted form obviously being much more common. — LlywelynII 08:43, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • The umlauts were removed, since they are not present in the standard spelling of the word. The realgar article may have a note on the pronunciation, but Wikitionary, not Wikipedia, is the proper place for that information.--Jorge Stolfi (talk) 16:02, 11 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The same quote shows up at Baidu Baike and the Zh.Wiki, so I'm assuming it's well-known on the subject. Not sure what the source is, though:

善能杀百毒、辟百邪、制蛊毒,人佩之,入山林而虎狼伏,入川水而百毒避

Overly literal translation:

Quite able to kill the hundred poisons, behead the hundred wrongs, lop off the harmful poisons; worn by people, enter the mountains and forests and the tigers and wolves lie low, enter the rivers and streams and the hundred poisons hide themselves away.

Preparation[edit]

The references are not clear on the preparation and drinking of the beverage. Is it filtered before consumption, or is the realgar powder ingested together with the wine?
