High Schools

If you are going to have a section on high schools, then information on more than one should be added. Tables are completely unnecessary. Right now it reads as if either: Hunting Hills is the only high school in Red Deer OR, Hunting Hills is somehow special or magic. Also, why not add info about Red Deer College and other post-secondaries. I think that this information is more valuable than a list of high schools. -Tyson2k

Ranking of cities

68.147.209.85 stated that, according to provincial stats, Red Deer is larger than Lethbridge. Can someone please cite a reputable source that shows this? The most recent census data does NOT show this iirc and so I plan on reverting this change shortly if nobody can come up with a citation. Wikipedia itself shows Red Deer to have a smaller population than Lethbridge. --Yamla June 28, 2005 16:29 (UTC)

Refer to the Alberta Official Population List for 2004 [1]. It states that Lethbridge had a population of 72,717 and Red Deer had 75,923. This is still somewhat misleading since the city of Lethbridge clearly does not believe in conducting a census regularily (not since 2002) whereas Red Deer did one in 2004. Nevertheless, this is official government data and it is far more up-to-date than the StatsCan 2001 census. -Tyson2k

I added the {{Canadian Cities}} template, can anyone please find the area of Red Deer, and therefore the Population density? It is proving rather difficult to find this information.

Perhaps this can resolve this debate. The PDF referenced from the BC stats website is of the Lethbridge FED, not the City of Lethbridge on its own or the City's metro area. FED is a Statistics Canada abbreviation for federal electoral district. According to StatCan's GeoSearch2006 mapping tool, the Lethbridge FED includes the City of Lethbridge, three counties, Waterton National Park, and numerous towns, villages and Indian reserves. As such, the population of the Lethbridge FED is not appropriate for the Lethbridge article, or the Red Deer article for the purpose of comparing the two cities.

Further, the discrepancy between Lethbridge's 2006 municipal census (78,713) and the 2006 federal census (74,637) was 4,067. It was not 38,894 (113,531 from the Lethbridge FED less 74,637 from the City of Lethbridge).

Finally, the most recent municipal census performed by the City of Lethbridge was in 2009. Its 2009 population is 85,492, which is less than Red Deer's 2009 municipal census population of 89,891. Lethbridge has done its own census annually since 2005.

For future reference, the most accurate sources of the latest census population figures for Alberta's municipalities include Alberta Municipal Affairs' most recent Official Population List and the Alberta Population website. Cheers, --Hwy43 (talk) 09:40, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Highways

Beejsterb, if I recall correctly, the convention on Alberta community articles has been to include only highways within the 1-216 series of highways (formerly known as the primary highways) in their infoboxes. Excluding those you most recently edited, have you found other Alberta community articles with any of the 500-986 series of highways (formerly known as the secondary highways) presented within their infoboxes? Name Origin

British traders translated the name as "Red Deer River", since they mistakenly thought elk were European red deer - To be fair, the North American elk, or wapiti, is very similar to - and closely related to - the European red deer. If a mistake was made, it was to call elk 'elk', a name that should have been reserved for the moose, which was known as elk in Eurasia. Nasorenga (talk) 21:55, 31 March 2016 (UTC)

Merger proposal

I propose that Flag of Red Deer, Alberta be merged into Red Deer, Alberta. The readable prose size is only 71 words, and the article hasn't been edited for almost 2 years.
