Removal of "Gay Wizard" Statement[edit]

Previous version claimed the portrayal of a "gay wizard" and used the wizard "conjuring a homerotic image" as argument for that claim. The scene is shortly into chapter 11, 40:44 mins to be exact and clearly shows a woman. How would that prove the male wizard to be gay? Time/chapter refers to Warner Brothers #66991 Region 1 release. I watched the movie carefully and while there is clearly a portrayal of the evil queen as lesbian there is no portrayal of a "gay wizard" IMHO only of course. I removed the "gay wizard" statement, feel free to add it back in if you find a reputable source. User:Cyberroach 03:49, 3 March 2008

Overall Rating[edit]

"Overall Rating ....... 3.6/10, (Plot 2/10), (Direction 4/10), (Acting 2/10), (Cinematography 5/10), (Music 5/10)"

May I know whose opinion this "Overall Rating" is based on. Thanks. --BorgQueen 10:55, 16 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps it’s not my POV but the collection of some serious reviewer’s ratings from various websites.
During some hard search for recourses of the article, I visited well over 50 movies websites including imdb.com or just like movies.yahoo.com.
After reading every piece of information from the selected articles, I guessed the reviewer’s opinions about the movie plot, music, acting, direction, cinematography, and music.
Afterward I wasted some more hours to calculate all these figures and shaped in final figure just as you saw. This is of course a hard work, collecting these figures from verity of websites took lot of my time an I’ll not guaranty including these figures in my upcoming film articles.
However, I have an idea and need help from the respective users like you. The idea is about to build our own rating system for movies. I have details and if notice some interests then I’ll explain it here or on my talk page. User:SPMEKA 16:31, 16 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed. I removed the overall rating as OR. --BorgQueen 22:50, 23 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Reference[edit]

The only section I added was the criticism section, and the source is listed in that section. The disparity between the movie's entry (which to my knowledge is the only verifiable source in this article) and this article strongly suggests a fanboy component at work. --L. 00:18, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Poster / name[edit]

The poster seems to show a film called "Kalidor" - was it released under that name in some places (sems to be in French) ?

Shouldn't we try to find an illustration under the Red Sonja name ?

Why the name change for Conan?[edit]

My understanding is that Roy Thomas created Red Sonja for the comics while Red Sonya was the inspiration. Sonya was a Robert E. Howard character but was not set in the same time/location as Conan. Because the studio bought the rights to Red Sonja from Marvel, they could not reach an agreement with the owners of the Conan license so they renamed the character. Can anyone find any details on this? I vaguely remember reading about this in a comics trade magazine or something back in the 80's. Maybe the CBG? Vaginsh 10:11, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I suppose you think the character of the same name, one letter off, by the screen writer of a work by the author of Red Sonya ( in the Shadow of the Vulture) is a coincidence? You probably believe vanilla ice didn't plagiarize Queen. 75.177.47.137 (talk) 03:19, 2 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I saw this movie the other day and there's no mention of Marvel Comics or Roy Thomas in either the closing or opening credits. It says its based on the character created by Robert E. Howard in the opening credits.screenshot The imdb listing also doesn't mention Marvel or Thomas at all. Tehw1k1 (talk) 01:37, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

homophobic... come on.....[edit]

So just because evil woman is lesbian that means this movie is homophobic... Gay people can't be evil, they are saints. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.171.215.150 (talk) 01:03, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that the claim was based on an editor's interpretation of an entry in the Encyclopedia of Science Fiction seen here. I've rephrased the text in the reception section accordingly and removed the corresponding statement from the lede. Regards, AzureCitizen (talk) 21:46, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I've just seen that entry. I think it is reasonable to interpret it as saying that the film portrays homosexuality as evil, but I won't restore that detail without consensus. FreeKnowledgeCreator (talk) 07:53, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Reference to "Heavy Metal"[edit]

Why? What's the relevance? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Crimson667 (talkcontribs) 13:41, 21 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

To anyone who has seen both films, it's rather obvious that Red Sonja is one of several films influenced by Heavy Metal (Repo Man and The Fifth Element are a couple of others). The glowing green orb that needs to be destroyed in Red Sonja, and which destroys any man who touches it, is just another version of the Lok-Nar in Heavy Metal, which has a nasty tendency to disintegrate people. I don't object very strongly to the link being removed, however. Polisher of Cobwebs (talk) 21:06, 21 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
A quick search engine test does not show that much of a relationship between the two. I'm okay with removing it. Erik (talk | contribs) 21:20, 21 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Somewhat surprising that it took this long to actually do so. There's nothing whatsoever unique or derivative in a SF&F film with an Evil Dangerous Magical Dingus Which Needs To Be Destroyed, and there are only so many colors in the spectrum. No doubt there would be claims that it was "obvious" that the film was influenced by Lord Of The Rings had said Evil Dingus been a piece of jewelry. Ravenswing 06:00, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
