R. Leeper's famous hypocrisy

[edit]

This fine English diplomat became infamous when he said after being informed about the death camps in Eastern Europe, "as a general rule the Jews are inclined to magnify their persecutions." (Bernard Wasserstein, Britain and the Jews of Europe, 1933-1945 (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1979))

To describe such an "bigoted ass" as distinguished needs much more evidence. Hesweeney (talk) 05:27, 26 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • infamous? have not noticed. Who and when lambasted him?
  • famous? tend to doubt. Very few people have heard about Leeper, let alone his specific statements
  • hypocrisy? what makes you think so? Hypocrisy is when you say one thing and do another, see no evidence in case of Leeper
  • bigoted ass? well, perhaps not quite encyclopedic speak
  • distinguished? he was knighted, which in the UK, I think, stands for being distinguished
