NPOV issues[edit]

"Legalized prostitution hasn't stopped pimping and human trafficking in places where prostitution is regulated. Despite prostitution being legal, many prostitutes are illegal aliens in the countries where they work and cannot benefit from the positive aspects of regulated prostitution. And the profit motives of human traffickers don't disappear with legalized prostitution"

This reads more like a opinion piece than a encyclopedia article. In fact, the whole article seems to be geared towards discrediting regulated prostitution. I think we need to clean up this article a bit. 82.33.68.123 13:22, 14 June 2007 (UTC).[reply]

I concur with the above, whoever wrote the article sounded a little biased and against prostitution. People are entitled to their own opinions, but such opinions have no place in an encyclopedia. According to my information, it is true that legalized prostitution does not completely stop pimping etc., but it actually decreases it. For example in Styria, Austria the police made the following statement: Druck und Gewalt kämen zwar auch in Bordellen vor, sagt Karl Strohmeier von der Prostitutions- und Menschenhandelsabteilung der Kripo Graz. Viel stärker seien sie jedoch in der Wohnungsprostitution zu Hause. Der Standard, 12 July 2007 ("Pressure and violence are also present in (legal) brothels", Karl Strohmeier from the prostitution and human trafficking department of the Graz police said, "they are, however, much more present in the (illegal) prostitution in private appartments" ) --NeoUrfahraner 08:40, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I concur with the above folks who are calling the POV of this article into question. The statements in the article (non of which are cited or referenced) are pretty much boilerplate from the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women and related groups. That's one opinion – there are a number of others perspectives, not the least of which is that of sex worker rights activists, who take a variety of stances on legally regulated prostitution. I wrote it. And I agree, it is POV. I wrote it on impulse (without references), but this article doesn't get much attention so nobody alters it. I'm not against prostitution (actually visited them themselves), but very negative about regulation. Perhaps it would be better just to mention all the sides in the debate and give their point of view about regulated prostitution. It's the easiest way. There are many opinions about it. I believe this article to be biased and wrong. Although there are many services that conduct their business illegally, there are some that go by the laws. I am an owner of a licensed escort service in Kentucky. I run my business by the book. Though there are companies here that offer full service for a flat rate, they are not the only kind of service around. Services like mine get overlooked because those services get more noticed in the public eye. My company has drivers that come in with a standard contract where they take the client's driver's license information down. The lady then negotiates sessions which are all visual entertainment and listed on the contract. That is if it is a companion call. We also offer strippers and dinner dates. All my employees carry a recorders, are trained properly, and are periodically checked by the company as well as the police here. This article is percieving all escorts as prostitutes and that is a common mistake. It is a double edged sword. Clients do not believe what the phone operator and driver explain to them because they believe escorts are prostitutes and if you tell someone what you do they believe the same. Our company gets ridiculed and is not allowed to advertise certain places even where illegal massage parlors are because we are noted as an "escort service". Prostitution rings that call themselves escorts give us a bad name and makes that automatic assumption we are prostitutes as well. Our company would get shut down and put out of business fast (with me in the penn.) but if a hooker service gets busted they only have to pay a $50 fine here and put back on the streets. Those charges never turn into anything more no matter how many times you are busted for prostitution. The laws have made it easier to operate illegally and too easy to prostitute and that should be changed. That would take care of allot of these issues and also these assumptions.
