Clarification of google result hiding

[edit]

Clarification is needed for the claim that google will not display the Italian article from a google search. A search for the subject's name returns the wikipedia article as the first result via google.it, using an ISP geolocating in Italy. This blogger's page shows others havethe same experience - direct searches for the name show nothing missing.

I suspect there are specific search terms that will not return the article. In fact, this google.co.uk search for Banda della Comasina returns Renato's Italian article in fifth place (the English article in fourth place), while the same search but using google.it omits both the English and Italian articles in its results - and no warning that results have been removed. Similar searches for "capo Banda della Comasina" (boss of Banda della Comasina) also omit Renato's pages via google.it, while including non-wikipedia articles on the connection between Renato and the gang. -84user (talk) 12:53, 19 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Data protection laws

[edit]

Due to a request under data protection laws of Europe, Google is no longer able to show the Italian version of this Wikipedia page on search results intended for Europe.[1] The removal of the link has gained international attention [2][3]

I have removed the above because it is simply wrong, as mentioned in the previous talk page section. We do not know which search terms it applies to, but certainly under google.co.uk this page is the first hit and Italian WP the second. Google have said that there will be a warning when results are suppressed.

The conclusions of User 84 above may be correct, but would be WP:OR and so cannot be used in the article. The request may be significant in some other article, such as the Right to be forgotten or Wikipedia articles, but without more information it is not relevant here.
