POV tag[edit]

FN1 notes that Omokri attempted to silence a critic of the government, but this is not included in the article. FN3 has information about his comment that northerner's deaths were easing the burden on the country, but this was omitted from the article. GregJackP Boomer! 02:05, 9 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Factual accuracy tag[edit]

A number of claims are made where the provided reference does not support the claim. These have been marked with {{dubious}}. At this time, these are:

  • FN3 (Lere) - only states "aide," not the title cited.
  • FN4 (El Rufai) - only states "aide," not the title cited.
  • FN5 (Kawu) - only states "assistant," not the title cited.

*FN8 (Iman) - only states "United States-basedexpert on online electioneering", does not state anything about "Vice President, Africa, at Joe Trippi and Associates."

  • FN14-18 (Omokri) - all are OpEd pieces by Omokri, none state or support the claim that he is a "prolific" writer.

In addition, there are many unsourced claims, these have been marked with a {{citation needed}} tag. GregJackP Boomer! 12:07, 14 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've struck the refs that have been addressed by editing, and only see a couple of issues left. The one FN8 above still has no support for his position at Trippi. An internet search did not come up with anything to that effect either, other than self-sourced statements by Omokri. I would recommend it either be removed or modified to read "U.S. based political expert" or some similar wording that the reference supports. The only unsourced item left is his status as founder of Build Up Nigeria, which can be left as is with the CN tag, removed, or sourced. GregJackP Boomer! 20:12, 14 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Actually, the source does mention Omokri as being the VP Africa of Tippi & Associates. "...Reno, who is the VP (Africa) at Joe Trippi and Associates, a Washington DC based Political Consultancy firm said Jonathan has the third largest following on facebook after President Obama of the U.Sand Sarkozy of France...". There are other sources which confirm this. I'll post them here in a few minutes. Amsaim (talk) 20:28, 14 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
..and yes, I only did a short search on the buildup Nigeria organization, and got no reliable result yet. This is why I left the citation-template on that statement; the primary source however does link him to buildup Nigeria. Amsaim (talk) 20:31, 14 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Comment about the current major edit tag[edit]

I did much research into the challenges of one person against many, if not most, of the footnotes here. I think having someone review these challenges is in order. Frankly, I think most of these objections are of little merit. Bill Pollard (talk) 19:47, 14 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Currently I am re-writing this article, removing all unsourced material, and adding new material with new references. The objections raised by Editor GregJack are based upon 1 BBC news article, in which a retired Nigerian freelance journalist criticized the news media in Nigeria. As a rsult, this editor discredits all Nigerian News Organisations as unreliable sources. To mass-tag this article with the dubious-template on references from major Nigerian newspapers, is not a good idea and only results in disruptive editing. Amsaim (talk) 20:03, 14 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The tags have nothing to do with the BBC article, which was an argument in the AfD. Please note that I did not claim that the sources were not reliable, nor did I remove any sources. I pointed out that the text of the sources did not support the text written in the article. For example, the article claims that Omokri worked for Trippi in the U.S. This is cited to at FN8, but the cited source does not state that he was a VP at Trippi, it stated that he was a "U.S. based expert." The source language, whether reliable or not, does not support the article text. Were I to discredit all the sources, all of the cites would have been labelled, and they were not. Only areas where the editor did not take care to use the source to properly support the text were tags used. Other claims in the text were unsourced and were tagged with "citation needed." See my reply to this above (the source states word-by-word that Omokri is the VP Africa at Joe Trippi and Associates, a Washington DC based Political Consultancy firm). Amsaim (talk) 20:34, 14 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
My mistake, I missed that on Trippi. GregJackP Boomer! 21:46, 14 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
