Semantics

[edit]

A clone operation is performed when a developer want to start working on an existing project.

That explains nothing. You can't define something by giving an example. Now I know that somebody performs a clone operation when he wants to start working on an existing project. But I still don't know what a "clone operation" is supposed to be. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.41.69.202 (talk) 01:39, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This looks like a different name for Mirror (computing). A merge should be considered. Exit2DOS CtrlAltDel 18:14, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Propose merge

[edit]

I propose this article be merged to Fork (software development). The concepts of distributed VCS that apply to clone are the same as the ones in fork, and by cloning you are in effect forking the project with the intent of merging it back later. I believe Branching (revision control) is a much better merge target. 50.53.15.59 (talk) 11:00, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
