L’armée de terre

Illust: IMG 9890, 25 ko, 120x146 L’armée de terre est la composante principale des forces armées guinéennes. L’armée de terre guinéenne constitue un atout de poids pour la défense du pays.

Forte de 10 000 hommes, c’est une armée de métier, professionnelle qui, au même titre que l’ensemble des composantes gendarmerie, air et mer, est en cours de réorganisation. Les missions de l’armée de terre recouvrent les domaines suivants :

- défense du territoire et opérations de maintien de l’ordre et de défense de points sensibles ; - participation à des opérations de maintien de la paix ; - missions de protection civile.

L’armée de terre en outre, remplit également des missions diverses par l’intermédiaire du bataillon du génie qui regroupe les composantes : génie route, génie rural et génie du bâtiment avec des moyens spécifiques adaptés. Le bataillon ainsi participe activement à la réalisation d’infrastructures civiles ou militaires importantes et à la sécurité alimentaire.

Pour assurer ces missions l’armée de terre dispose :

- d’unités territoriales au niveau de chacune des quatre régions militaires (1ère RM : Kindia ; 2ème RM : Labé ; 3ème RM : Kankan ; 4ème RM : N’Zérékoré) ; cf. carte p. 17. - d’unités spéciales autonomes (troupes aéroportées, bataillon blindé, bataillon autonome de sécurité présidentielle, bataillon de sécurité de Conakry) au niveau de la zone spéciale de Conakry.

Depuis 2000-2001, à la suite des agressions à sa frontière sud, l’armée de terre contribue lourdement à la mission permanente de sécurisation aux frontières en maintenant déployé en permanence un dispositif opérationnel important.

Rearanged ; editing suggestions[edit]

Not sure on the appropriate layout of information in military articles, but I reorganized some of the text in a way that seemed to make sense. On the history, some of the material might be integrated into History of Guinea. At the same time there are gaps - notably concerning events on the border with Liberia - and a need for more info on the 2008 disturbances. Apart from the aircraft invetory, this is taken from the CIA, and is also outdated. Needs an update from CIA, look at the French government resources (go to the French Embassy, in Guinea's site, look for Multi-lateral cooperation, Military). Also (as most of these Military of... articles, it needs some social/historical background. What's the military's role in government? have they taken part in coups? repression? corruption? business? transitions to democracy? What's their relations with foreing powers like? They rejected the French under Toure, which was VERY different from most of their neighbors, whose militaries were staffed with French officers for years after indepence.
