Why the separation?

Why exactly was this article for the same song separated for two different singers? And, if it was necessary, why didn't anyone attempt to reformat the Otis Redding portion of the article? Someone tell me, because this separation doesn't quite seem necessary. Volatile 01:16, 21 September 2005 (UTC)

TCB?

The article says that the correct lyric is 'TCP' and often misquoted as 'TCB.' However, it then goes on to explain the meaning and popularity of the word in black culture and says that its novelty to other people resulted in the oft-misheard lyrics. So is the correct lyric actually TCB? Or did she actually say TCP in the original recording? I don't know, it seems rather unclear. Tegrenath (talk) 05:59, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

As is noted below, "TCB" (Taking Care of Business) is correct and "TCP" (probably just the "best guess" of someone whose job it was to write up the lyrics, but who really didn't know what the heck she was saying) is the misquote found in most published music sheets/karaoke machines/etc. However, flipping the "TCB" and "TCP" (or a similar change) in this article seems to be a semi-common way in which the article is periodically vandalized. Anyone checking this talk page because of confusion similar to the above might do well to check the recent article history for an instance of such vandalism. And, of course, if found, please revert. Who introduced "TCB?"

Yes, it certainly was TCB. Now check a couple YouTubes of Redding singing the song. In 1965, the entire "R-E-S-P-E-C-T" section is missing. But later, in 1967, with the Bar-Kays (but not at Monterey Pop), he's got the whole thing, including "T-C-B." Okay, after checking the lyrics to Redding's version, at several sites, which differs from Franklin's in a number of ways, I'm led to believe that Redding introduced "T-C-B."
