Silver King P-183[edit]

Hi Atsme, I was looking through some of the cutting articles to see how they were formatted for examples. While editing in Buster Welch which I am in right now working. I happened to notice that Silver King P-183, was mentioned in this article. Just a note to let you know that I have more information on him because he is in the pedigree of a horse I created an article on a few months ago, Eternal Sun, a notable Quarter Horse. He's been written about in a book by Western Horseman. Legends Volume 8: Outstanding Quarter Horse Stallions and Mares. I am still working on the article but the pedigree is mostly done. Anyway, Silver King is the grandsire of Eternal Sun. So it is a close relation. This is from the article "a 1937 bay stallion by Old Sorrel P-209 and out of Clegg Mare No. 3, was bred by the King Ranch of Kingsville, Texas." I can also quote the content of the book if needed.

I couldn't find a mention of the horse by name on the King Ranch web site although it did say all of their Quarter Horses were by Old Sorrel. I did find it in this Google Book about King Ranch horses where it shows the names Silver King and Rex Cauble. [1] Of course, the book should be proof enough when it's Western Horseman. If you already knew this, no harm done. I might talk to WAF about whether to mention Rex Cauble here in my article. Also, I found a page on the King Ranch that has a paragraph about two horses that Welch worked with and mentions him. Don't conflate the horses with the BLP...the trainers are the ones who made the horses notable...we can mention the horses in the BLPs along with their accomplishments but don't focus only on the horse(s). If readers want to learn more about the horse, they can simply lookup the horse. Also, another thought to keep in mind...going back on a pedigree more than 2 or 3 generations shouldn't get too much ~~Weifge~~ weight. ^{Atsme📞📧} 22:19, 27 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Well, yes I normally wouldn't. I was just thinking about the King Ranch prestige. What's that about going back more than 2 or 3 generations though? Silver King is 2 generations from Eternal Sun and Old Sorrel is 3 generations. But, there are many horses descended from Old Sorrel I guess. According to Old Sorrel's article, Silver King is one of his famous offspring. But perhaps someone will add an article for Silver King if he's really that notable; perhaps I'll ask Ealdgyth about it.
