Settled and charted?[edit]

At present the article states that the "The settlement received a town charter from King Manuel in 1507" and that it was settled in 1507. Did no village or other settlement exist before 1507 when King Manuel granted the charter? Greenshed (talk) 23:52, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
