Open Letter

[edit]

Moved from Richard Andrew Morse "Hey everyone. Richard Auguste Morse is quite upset with his entry. This needs to be fixed. I suggest people make an effort, and stop reverting his original revisions. It frustrated him quite a bit (Though he really should have, you know, posted here, but!). Regardless, we need this fixed, please. These errors seem to arise from my contributions. All I can say is that they are honest errors, derived from the references I was using in researching the article. For example, it's possible to derive a 1961 birth date by piecing together the biographical data on Morse found in Shacochis's text, which is by far the most comprehensive source of information on the musician I have found in print. The incorrect middle name comes from this 1999 article about Haiti, Vodou, and rasin: "Recommended Reading". Until the May, 2007 blog post, this was the only example I'd ever seen of Morse's name that included a middle name, and of course there was no particular reason to doubt its accuracy. That article did not make the citation list, because aside from the middle name, the remainder of the content matched what was available in other sources, and other, more comprehensive citations were used in the rest of the article. Finally, if you go back and look at the edit history, you will see that the edits from "Andrew" to "Auguste" were made by an IP-only editor who did not include any source, citation, or even explanation for the changes, and thus (unfortunately) looked a lot more like someone screwing around with the article than someone actually correcting it. I hope this explains the source of the errors, and I sincerely hope that Mr. Morse understands that there were no ill intentions involved.--Kharker 15:23, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have fixed all the links in other articles that point to this one.--Kharker 15:44, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
